3. Learn to predict and verify word meaning of unfamiliar words or familiar words
SQ3R
S = Survey means to look at the assignment, the pictures, the title and headings. Read the
first sentence or two.
Q = Question means to ask yourself, “What is the assignment about? What is the author
trying to tell me?” Once you know what you are going to read, you can read with better
understanding.
As you READ the assignment look for the answers to the questions. (Read the questions
first.) Use a highlighter to underline the matching words in the text.
RECITE in your mind the main ideas you have just read.
Read the text ‘Identifying the main idea and details using the SQ3R method.
