to observe fasting every other day.
ii. Aysha (RA) said, “I did not see the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), fasting more in any other month than that of
Sha’ban. Narrated by Al Bukhari and Muslim.
iii. Voluntary fasting is the dearest deed of Allah Almighty.
iv. Voluntary fasting is done on certain days on which fasting is recommended.
v. Voluntary fasting has two types, open voluntary fasting, and time specific fasting.

Q1. Write the concept of voluntary fasting?
Ans: Voluntary fasting is one of the voluntary worship acts for which, if performed, a Muslim will be rewarded.
If a Muslim does not perform them, he will not be deemed to have sinned. Voluntary fasting is done on certain
days on which fasting is recommended. It is something through which a Muslim wins the love of Allah.
Q2. What are the merits of voluntary fasting?
Ans: Voluntary fasting is one of the best deeds through which a servant gets closer to Allah due to its great
merit and big reward; Allah multiplies the reward of fasting over seven hundred times.
Q3. What are the types of voluntary fasting? Explain.
Ans: Voluntary fasting is of two types. First: Open voluntary fasting Second: Time-specific voluntary fasting
Open voluntary fasting: This type of fasting is not time-specific; a Muslim can observe voluntary fasting on any
day of the year, except for the forbidden days. Time-specific voluntary fasting: In this type, voluntary fasting is
observed on specific days on a weekly, monthly or annual basis.
Q4. Write some examples of time-specific voluntary fasting.
Ans: Time-specific voluntary fasting: In this type, voluntary fasting is observed on specific days on a weekly,
monthly or annual basis, for example:
i. Weekly: To fast on Mondays and Thursdays.
ii. Monthly: To fast three days in every month.
iii. Annual: To fast first nine days of the month of Dhul Hijjah.
To fast on the Day of Arafah (9th Dhul Hijjah).
To fast on the Day of Ashura (10th Muharram).
To fast during the month of Sha’ban.
