Abstract
The article "Application of remote sensing, GIS and GPS for efficient urban management plan:
A case study of part of Hyderabad city" explores the use of remote sensing, GIS, and GPS
technologies in urban management. The article focuses on a specific area of Hyderabad city,
and aims to assess the effectiveness of these technologies in improving urban planning and
management. The authors found that these technologies can be useful in generating accurate
spatial data, identifying land use patterns, and creating efficient urban management plans. The
study provides insights into how cities can use these technologies to improve their urban
planning and management practices. The article recommends the adoption of these technologies
in urban management planning in other cities to ensure sustainable development.

1. Introduction

Reviewed article: “Akanbi A.K, Kumar S., and Fidelis U., (2013). Application of remote
sensing, GIS and GPS for efficient urban management plan: A case study of part of Hyderabad
city. Novus International Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2(4)”

The article “Application of remote sensing, GIS and GPS for efficient urban management plan:
A case study of part of Hyderabad city” by Akanbi et al. (2013) was published by Novus
International Journal of Engineering and Technology. It is clear from the article that, urban
planning is a critical aspect of modern urban development. With the increasing rate of
urbanization, there is a need for efficient management of urban resources to ensure sustainable
development. The application of remote sensing, GIS and GPS technologies has revolutionized
urban management planning by providing accurate and reliable data for decision-making. One
such application was demonstrated in a recently published case study in part of Hyderabad city,
India, by Akanbi et al. (2013), aiming to develop an efficient urban management plan using
remote sensing, GIS and GPS technologies.

2. Methodology
The authors used satellite imagery to map land use and land cover in the study area. They also
collected data on roads, buildings, water bodies and other features using GPS. This data was then
integrated into a GIS database to create a comprehensive map of the study area.

The authors used the GIS database to analyze the spatial relationships between different features
in the study area. For example, they analyzed the proximity of residential areas to industrial areas
and identified areas where there may be conflicts between different land uses. They also used the
database to identify areas where there may be environmental risks, such as areas prone to
flooding or landslides.

Furthermore, the authors used the data and analyses from the GIS database to develop an urban
management plan for the study area. It is clear from the article that, this plan included
recommendations for land use zoning, infrastructure development, and environmental
management.

3. Major Findings
Overall, the authors found that the use of remote sensing, GIS and GPS technologies was highly
effective in developing an efficient urban management plan for the study area. The technologies
allowed them to collect and analyze large amounts of data quickly and accurately, which in turn
allowed them to identify key issues and develop targeted solutions.

The article suggested that the use of these technologies is becoming increasingly important in
urban planning and management, particularly in rapidly growing cities such as Hyderabad. They
recommend that other cities consider using these technologies to improve their own urban
management practices.

4. Conclusion
In conclusion, the article provides valuable insights into the application of remote sensing, GIS
and GPS technologies in urban planning and management. It demonstrates the potential of these
technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness in urban management, and provides a
useful example for other cities seeking to improve their own practices. The article finally
recommends the adoption of these technologies in urban management planning in other cities to
ensure sustainable development.

Generally, article is well-written and well-arranged with an important message in a manner that,
any concerned body can develop more knowledge from it.

5. Limitation of the article

 Limited scope: The article has focused on only a small part of the city, which may not be
representative of the entire urban area.
 Data quality: The accuracy and reliability of the data used in the article may be questionable,
which can affect the validity of the results.
 Methodological limitations: The article has used a limited range of methods or tools, which
could have affected the accuracy and completeness of the findings.
 Generalizability: The article's findings may not be applicable to other cities or regions due to
differences in geographic and socio-economic factors.
