DMK KIOGORA
DIRECTOR & MCA - ABOGETA WEST
During a trip to the United States of America, I was inspired by the stories of many Kenyans
who have achieved the American Dream. I later met Bob Mwiti and we agreed to partner
together to Airlift brilliant Kenyans who wish to study IT-related master’s programs at select
Universities in USA, regardless of their undergraduate concentrations. Due to the high
number of unemployed graduates in Kenya, it is my passion to assist young people find
alternative career pathways. Hence, I started The Airlift Sacco (TAS) to primarily help in
financing this program.

If you are qualified, I encourage you to take advantage of the program and join select
Universities in the USA for IT-related master’s programs that will lead you to well-paying
jobs after graduation. You can come back to Kenya well-empowered and contribute to
our technological sector with world-class skills and experiences.

I have received 2 awards so far for co-founding The KENYA Airlift Program: Mtumishi Bora
Award by KCPF in 2019 and Top under 35 MCA in Kenya- 2021 by Youth Agenda, an
organization affiliated to the Ministry of ICT and Youth Affairs as well as United Nations

BOB MWITI - DIRECTOR

After graduating from the university here in the US, I felt a heavy burden over me seeing
the few Africans, specifically from Kenya who knew about study opportunities in the US.
What amazed me most was the spirit and knowledge of Indians about graduate
programs in the US. In my school, Indians formed the majority of international students and
also represented the biggest bulk of international students in American colleges. On the
other hand, most African students didn’t know where to begin in their pursuit of American
high education. Many didn’t know which schools and programs to consider, how to get
funding, and how to navigate through the visa processes.

It’s because of these challenges that I co-founded this organization to primarily help
international students like you. Our goal in this program is to ensure that we provide
optimal guidance through the many processes inclined to ultimately attending a US
university and pursuing your master’s and offering career guidance and assistance after
graduation. I have received various accolades for my role in co-founding The KENYA Airlift
Program and impacting people’s lives.

In 2021, I received The Global Impact Award by the International Council of Educational
Professionals (ICEP).In 2018, I was recognized by African Warrior Magazine as one of the
40 most Inspiring Kenyan Men Living In USA.

OVERVIEW
Every year, the United States absorbs close to 1 million international students from every corner of
the world who migrate to further their studies. On the other hand, thousands of brilliant Kenyans
and other Africans who wish to seek world-class education in USA, fail to do so, simply because
education in USA is too expensive for them and they have no access to any kind of funding that
would facilitate such an endeavor.

The KENYA Airlift Program seeks to help brilliant Kenyans achieve that dream of studying in USA
regardless of their financial background. We only accommodate ambitious, and incredibly
talented Kenyans who are willing to take a leap of faith in joining the tech industry in order to make
their American dream a reality. One does not need to have an IT bachelor’s degree to pursue an
IT -related master’s course in USA through the program.

This award-winning program is trying to fix 2 major challenges Kenyan students face in their quest
to study in America, namely:

• Acquiring funding
• Career support

Acquiring Funding
In Kenya, currently there are no banks that offer international student loans for those wishing to
study abroad. Through this program, we are trying to emulate a country like India that offers such
loans to its citizens wishing to study abroad. We have taken it upon ourselves to find a way of
funding Kenyans who wish to pursue Master’s in IT in USA. We have officially partnered with US-
based lender MPOWER Financing who offer unsecured international student loans to facilitate that,
and we also formed The Airlift Sacco (TAS) to fund our beneficiaries with relocation expenses loans.
Additionally, discover student loans are also available for students with cosigners who are US
permanent residents and have a good credit history.

Also, we understand that it’s quite challenging to find financial aid, and in this program, we assist
our beneficiaries in applying for graduate/teaching assistantships with the schools that we work
with. These assistantships usually pay at least half of the tuition cost and offer stipends to take care
of some of the living expenses.

Career Support.
The US is literally the Mecca of high-quality education. With a master’s degree from an American
university, your profile becomes quite competitive in the corporate world anywhere across the
globe. Besides, blending your master’s with the IT training skills that we offer, such as Robotic
Process Automation (RPA), and Data Science (Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence), is
usually the hallmark of career greatness. These skills are the most sought-after in the contemporary
corporate arena.

By packaging you well along those two important realms, we are able to help create your value
and make you ripe for any opportunity for career progression after school. We consistently provide
guidance and mentorship at each step of your career ladder to enhance personal growth and
success.

3
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The KENYA Airlift Program is divided into 2 options based on the
student’s academic and financial ability: REGULAR and PARALLEL.
Students in the regular option are entitled to Airlift relocation loans
while those in parallel are not. Specific differences between the
two options are outlined in the succeeding sections in this
handbook.

non-refundable application fee of $10 that is paid at the time of submitting the
application. You will receive a decision within 48 hours.

STEP 3: Making Relevant Program Contributions

• As part of your acceptance into the program, you will be sent a link to make payment
for your contribution depending on your chosen option:
➢ Qualified REGULAR students pay USD 100 SACCO non-refundable registration fees
and choose and purchase the different packages available that entitle you to
various relocation loan amounts as outlined on page 10 of this handbook. All
payments are made through our online system. Link to make payments will be
sent to you once you have been accepted into the program. Please refer to the
page 12 for financial implications of premature program withdrawal.
➢ Qualified PARALLEL students pay USD 100 SACCO non-refundable registration fees
plus a non-refundable upfront fee of USD 1000 and a further one-off payment of
USD 500 before going for visa interview. The USD 500 is refundable in the event
someone isn’t successful in the visa interview and wants to withdraw from the
program.

STEP 4: University Pre-enrolment

• For REGULAR students, after completing the first instalment payment, the onboarding
process begins whereby you will be given access to the training portal which contains all
the study materials for GMAT and GRE. GMAT training is MANDATORY for all regular
students once one has completed making full payments. We are also planning for the
introduction of GRE training for those who choose that option. You are required to
prepare for at least 3 months before taking the GMAT/GRE exams. Students will be
expected to score a minimum of 550 out of 800 in the GMAT or 310 in the GRE to
proceed to the next step.
• PARALLEL students proceed straight to school enrolment without the GMAT/GRE
prerequisite unless it is a requirement for their preferred course. Parallel students who wish
to take GMAT can buy the GMAT training package for an additional fee of $150. This can
be done inside the student’s portal account.

STEP 5: University Enrolment

• After passing your GMAT we evaluate your undergraduate background and apply to the
three universities that best fit your profile and needs. Our career advisory team will work
very closely with you to determine the best options for you.

STEP 6: Applying for Funding

• Once accepted, we guide you on how to apply for graduate assistantships with the
universities as well as apply for unsecured international student loans with our lenders

5
MPOWER Financing (official partner) or Discover Student Loans. The loan and/or
graduate assistantship will enable you to pay for your graduate studies in USA.

STEP 7: Visa Application and Coaching

• Once you get approved for funding, we request your I-20 from the school to seek student
visa.
• Upon processing of your I-20, we start the student visa application process and train you
on how to pass the student visa interview.

STEP 8: Relocation to the US

• Once your visa is approved, we start the process of relocating you to the USA.
• At the time of relocation, The Airlift Sacco (TAS) disburses your loan to take care of the
relocation expenses.

STEP 9: Job Skills Training

• Once you relocate and join university, we will train you on IT job skills as you pursue your
master’s degree. These are amazing high-income skill sets that are geared towards
equipping you with the right competencies after graduation and make your profile
impressive and ripe for many amazing opportunities in the corporate world.
