Why does digital literacy matter as a student?

Digital literacy matters as it helps student

learning and citizenship by teaching students
how to find, evaluate, use, and create digital
content in meaningful ways.

Information: Identify, locate, retrieve, store,

organise and analyse information, its relevance
and purpose. 2. Communication: Communicate
in digital places, share resources/tools;
collaborate, interact and participate in
communities and networks.

Why is digital literacy important to digital

citizenship?
Digital literacy refers to the skills and
knowledge required to engage critically and
creatively with digital technologies across a
wide spectrum, while digital citizenship refers
to doing the same discerningly and safely.

Why is literacy important?

Literacy gives people access to that
information. Literacy plays a significant role in
reducing gender, race, nationality, and religious
inequality that favors one group over another in
access to education, property, employment,
health care, legal, and civic participation.

How digital literacy promotes student learning?

This involves developing skills and knowledge
that enable them to safely navigate and discern
all forms of digital technology. Knowing these
IT skills allows students to learn traditional
subjects in innovative ways through
educational courseware and online resources.

How important is literacy today?

Literacy empowers and liberates people.
Beyond its importance as part of the right to
education, literacy improves lives by expanding
capabilities which in turn reduces poverty,
increases participation in the labour market and
has positive effects on health and sustainable
development.
Digital native generations
Digital natives are generally identified as
the millennial generation and the
generations that come after; as of right
now, this includes Generation Z.
Millennials and following generations
have spent nearly their entire lives
surrounded by computers, digital devices
and the world of social media. This digital
literacy has made these generations very
comfortable with and fluent in the use of
technology. As young adults, digital
natives should be able to use modern
technology proficiently, to find jobs and to
better prepare themselves for everyday
life.
