REFLECTION PAPER

June 30, 2026, is when it all started, and it is when I had my first ever Duty as a Student Nurse at
RHU Buenlag, Calasiao. I couldn’t express in words how excited I was that night before my duty. I also
felt that moment because I haven’t passed my requirements yet to our clinical instructor, which is the
antigen test. I struggled that night to find an antigen test kit. I also asked about pharmacies, but they
were so pricey. But I managed to pass it on somehow. Then the morning came, and I had my CHN
uniform worn for the first time and also on my first duty. I had no idea from the beginning what we
were going to do. As I arrived at the RHU, I felt magical, or something I don’t know and can't explain,
maybe because of excitement. Our clinical instructor arrived, and then she saw me with my uncut
long hair, and I immediately fixed it and managed it somehow. I was going to get my haircut the next
day anyway. When I step on the entrance, the staff of RHU Buenlag welcomes us with their smile;
they are so approachable and lively. Their head nurse, Ma’am Mae Anne Soriano, introduced us to
their staff and added a little information on what to do during RHU duties. They had their tasks and
places to take care of. There are places where you can get vital signs, screening tests, and
medications. I got assigned to the pharmacy with my four classmates under the care of Sir Philip
Magsanoc, the nurse and pharmacist in the area. When there are so many patients arriving, we have
a hard time handling and managing those numbers of patients because we lack knowledge, and it’s
our first-ever duty in that area. But with the guidance of Sir Philip, we learned how to do it correctly
and with ease. Our group is doing so well as we are moving as one; it’s like we are just enjoying the
flow of work and not thinking that we are tired because of the joy that we feel and the love that we
are dedicating to it. We also had our pretest, and I got 23/30. My first duty made me proud of myself
because I got to learn about different types of drugs, earn experience, serve clients, and meet other
people at RHU. That’s the best thing I’ve learned on my first-ever duty: serving the people and putting
the biggest smile on their faces as they leave. And of course, all of this happened because of Madam
Kristine Macaraeg, our very own clinical instructor. She made our first duty memorable and full of joy.
And I will forever treasure it, it's a blast!
