the Maltese Islands as your destination and thank you for choosing inlingua Malta as
your language learning school.

Our aim is to ensure that your stay in Malta will be as fruitful and memorable as
possible. To guide you, we have compiled the following information about our
school, the Maltese Islands, places you can visit, and much more.

We understand that being in a new country can be overwhelming, so should you


need any assistance or if you have any queries, please contact an inlingua staff

Prior to Your Arrival in Malta
Please take the inlingua Online Placement Test on the following link:
https://www.inlingua-pot.com. Kindly follow the set procedure sent with this
document and make sure that you choose ‘Malta’ twice when registering.
The result will be sent to you by email the week prior to your arrival.
You will then be placed in a class according to your level of English and a
schedule is created for your arrival.

Please make sure that you have the following documents with you in Malta –
whether stored digitally or in printed format:

A Valid ID or Passport.
A valid travel visa if this is required for your trip.
Travel Insurance to cover the duration of your stay in Malta.
A valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or equivalent (Medical Insurance).
Copies of your passport data page – in case you lost your passport.
Your inlingua Student Confirmation Voucher with the school’s contact details.
A Valid COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate (see list of valid certificates here).

Upon Your Arrival


If you have booked an arrival transfer, an inlingua driver from John’s Cab service
will be waiting for you in the arrival’s area. The driver will be holding a sign with
your name and surname. If you do not manage to see the driver, please wait near
the HSBC sign located in the arrival’s area.
Journey duration from Malta International Airport to Sliema by taxi is between 20
and 30 minutes.

On Your First Day at School

Please be at the school at 08:15 am.


Kindly check-in at Reception.
Please bring your ID Card/Passport and Student Confirmation Voucher with you
together with your COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate and show these at the Reception
Desk.
Your photo will be taken to create an inlingua Student Card.
The inlingua team will provide you with a schedule of lessons and your trainer
will meet you in the allocated classroom.
The time and location of an information meeting will also be listed on your
schedule.
During Your Stay
You will be given an inlingua Student card. It is important to carry this card with
you at all times as it is your form of identification in Malta.
We suggest that you leave your official documents in a safe place at your place of
accommodation.
Always keep contact details of the school and your accommodation with you at
all times. You will find this useful in case you get lost.
Always keep a list of emergency phone numbers saved on your phone.
Taking notes and writing is an important part of learning. Thus, when going to
lessons please always take a notebook or the inlingua diary, your course book
and a pen.
Kindly be on time for your lessons. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will
be marked absent for that lesson.
If you would like to learn about activities at school and excursions available,
please speak to our receptionist.

Please give us your feedback by filling in the feedback forms provided to you at
different stages of your stay with us. We value your opinion and would like to
hear about your experience at the school and in Malta.
If you are staying in Malta for more than 12 weeks, you will require a Student
VISA. inlingua Malta will assist you in the application process by providing you
with the list of documents required to apply. We will also check your documents
and submit your application. It is your responsibility to initiate the visa
application process during your first week of study at inlingua. Failure to do so is
not inlingua Malta’s responsibility but solely that of the student.
You will be rewarded a Certificate of Attendance at the end of your course if you
attend a minimum of 80% of your lessons.

Upon Your Departure


If you would like to book a departure transfer, kindly inform reception by
Wednesday.
If you have already booked your departure transfer, please go to Reception to
confirm your pick-up time.
Kindly make sure that you are at the pick-up point on time.
Journey duration from Malta International Airport to Sliema by taxi is about 20 to
30 minutes (depending on traffic).

Location
inlingua Malta is located in Sliema, a busy commercial and residential seaside town.
Enjoying an excellent location, only 50 meters away from the Sliema Seafront, you
will find two large shopping complexes, high street clothing outlets, and seafront
restaurants and cafes within walking distance.
Valletta the capital city is just a 7-minute ferry boat ride away.

Wi-Fi at School
There is free use of Wi-Fi throughout the building. Please ask our Receptionist for the
log-in details.

Attendance
Please ensure that you attend class . In case of illness please contact the school
immediately via email (info@inlinguamalta.com).

You must attend a minimum of 80% of lessons scheduled for the course in order to
receive an inlingua Course Certificate at its conclusion. Students whose attendance
falls below this level may be asked to leave the course. Moreover, students travelling
on a Student VISA will be reported to the Central VISA Unit and immigration Police.
Course Certificates
inlingua Malta awards Course Certificates to students who complete their course,
clearly stating course study dates, number of lessons completed, and CEFR Level
(Common European Framework Reference for languages) achieved.

Customer Care
The inlingua Malta team is available to help and assist at all times. Should a problem
occur please feel free to speak to any inlingua staff member who would be more
than happy to help. The inlingua Malta team is multi-lingual.

Expulsion
inlingua reserves the right to exclude/expel a student from a programme/course in
the event of misconduct within the school, place of accommodation or elsewhere.
Failure to abide by local laws and regulations could also result in expulsion.

You can pay contactless VISA payments on all buses but you can also buy bus cards
which include 7-Day Passes, 21 trips or Student passes from the tallinja booth
located 150 m away from the school on the Sliema Ferries.

Driving
In Malta and Gozo, driving is on the left. Unless otherwise indicated on relevant road
signs, speed limits in Malta are as follows:
80 km/h - open road
50 km/h - built-up areas
If you plan to rent a car or drive in Malta, it is recommended to take out
comprehensive insurance. Both national and international driving licenses are
accepted.

Electrical supply - 230 volts/-10%
Frequency of the supply - 50 hertz
Three-pin rectangular plug system
It is very easy to find adapters.

Water
It is safe to drink tap water throughout the Maltese Islands. Both local and imported
bottled mineral water is available from supermarkets, shops, restaurants and bars.

Health and Safety


Generally, people swim between May and October. However, occasionally Malta
experiences bad weather and rough seas due to strong wind during this period as
well. Thus, always be cautious and take notice of the Flag Colour present at beaches
and its meaning, as follows:
Red over yellow flag: the lifesaving boundary
Green: calm water
Yellow: medium hazard
Purple: the presence of pests (such as stinging jellyfish)
Red: high hazard
Double red: the water is closed for the public and the lifeguards, may not risk
their lives to enter the rough sea.

Avoid hitch hiking. Make use of public transport or licenses taxis to travel around
Malta.
Avoid walking alone in strange areas at night.
Avoid driving from high places and do not take unnecessary risks.
Make sure all vehicles have stopped before crossing the road.
Cross roads at zebra-crossings or pedestrian lights.
Always walk on the pavement.
If for some reason you need to wait, make sure you do not block access for other
pedestrians or other road users.

Curfew
Curfews have been implemented for the student's safety. Failure to abide by curfew
will result in a verbal warning and the agency/parents will be informed in writing. The
school reserves the right to expel such students, in which case the student will be
sent back home at their own cost.

Pharmacies
There are many pharmacies in Malta and Gozo, at least one in every town. Not all
pharmacies are open on Sunday. You can search online 'Pharmacies open on
Sunday' to find a list and the closest open one on Sundays.

Medical Assistance
If travelling with a European Health Card, you're entitled to free health care in local
state health clinics. However, should you require hospitalisation, you may be asked
to pay for most costs. It is therefore recommended that you have travel insurance
prior to your arrival. This may be purchased by contacting the inlingua sales team on
info@inlinguamalta.com. Non-EU members will have to pay for any medical costs
incurred during their stay. Should you require a doctor throughout your time in
Malta, the inlingua team will be more than happy to assist you in calling a doctor who
will see you at the school.

COVID-19 Terms and Medical Assistance

Voucher.

All inlingua Students must have a valid COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate recognized
by the Government of Malta before arrival in Malta and on their first day of
school
Course Cancellation up to 10 days before course date will be given a full-refund
Course Postponement is possible till the end of December 2022 against a deposit
of 25% of all fees.
Students are subject to a daily temperature check at the door.
Masks are mandatory at all times in school.
inlingua staff may ask to leave the building if you are visibly sick or otherwise.
Return may be granted against a PCR/Rapid Antigen Test .
inlingua Malta reserves the right to shift classes to online at any point during
students’ stay to ensure everyone’s safety. No cancellation or postponement may
be requested.
It is the students’ responsibility to check country specific travel regulations and
restrictions before setting off on any journey.

PCR/Rapid Antigen Test.
When unwell with COVID-19 or otherwise, and even if testing negative, please
makes sure that you allow 2 symptom-free days before return to school.

Local Hospitals or Private Testing Centers may provide a quicker yet accepted
alternative against payment.
MALTA

Malta's Climate
The Maltese Islands have a typical Mediterranean climate which is strongly
influenced by the sea. Malta has a pleasantly sunny climate.
Daily average hours of sunshine:
12 hours - summer
5-6 hours - mid-winter

Summers are very sunny, hot and dry.

Spring and autumn are usually cooler. Occasionally there are unseasonably high
temperatures and humidity, due to Scirocco wind from Africa.

Winters are mild, with the occasional cold weather brought about by the north and
north-easterly winds from Central Europe.

Annual rainfall is low, with an average of 568 mm a year.

Maltese law, customs and people


Respect local traditions, customs, as well as public and private property.
Wear a top or t-shirt when leaving the beach.
Please throw rubbish in the bins so as to help us keep Malta as clean as possible.
Do not make noise in public streets or public places.
Avoid carrying too much money on your person.
Always look after your personal belongings.

Important to remember
Do not smoke in public places.
Drinking alcohol is only allowed if you are over 17 years. If you decide to drink
alcohol, please do so in moderation. You will also find various non-alcoholic
options in restaurants and bars.
It is illegal to buy or consume alcohol if you are younger than 17 years.
If you are found in possession of any illegal substances/drugs during your stay in
Malta, you will face possible legal action and/or deportation.
Do not carry any type of weapon, including knives as this is illegal.

Valletta
Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is a Unesco World Heritage Site. In addition, it is the
European Capital of Culture 2018. One can enjoy stunning architecture in this small
city, as well as beautiful views as it lies between 2 natural harbours. Whilst being in
Malta's centre of governance and administration, it is also the Island's major
commercial and financial centre.

Things to do and see in Valletta


These three fortified cities are known for their rich history, authentic life, unique
culture, beautiful architecture, local warmth and diversity. Vittoriosa, also known as
Birgu, includes a recently renovated marina waterfront with many restaurants and
cafés. Single, also known as Isla, offers a beautiful view of the harbour too, whilst
Cospicua, also known as Bormla, is the largest of the Three Cities.

Sliema
Sliema is a vibrant coastal town in Malta. Its coast lies across the beautiful
Marsamxett Harbour and so it provides stunning views of Valletta's fortifications. It is
one of the most popular locations for shopping in Malta. Thanks to its lively
atmosphere and social nightlife it is sought after by many tourists and locals.

Things to do and see in Sliema:


Shopping: various shops and two of Malta's largest shopping malls - Tigne Point
and Plaza Shopping Centre.
Entertainment: short cruises, restaurants, cafés, seaside bars, clubs, water sport,
snorkelling and scuba diving.
Beaches: Rocky beaches, private lidos and waterpolo clubs.

St. Julians
St. Julians is a lively town and serves as one of Malta's main entertainment hubs. The
centre of the nightlife is Paceville area with many night clubs and bars. It is also
popular for a stroll along its promenade. One of St. Julian's picturesque spots is
Spinola Bay which also offers a breathtaking view.

The number of archeological sites in the country sets Malta's rich history apart from
