“Branding Saida”
An open canvas for urban regeneration solutions
AND
Discovering Beirut after the blast of August 2020
Overview:
Saida, a city with a rich cultural and historical heritage, possesses immense
potential for branding and showcasing its captivating landscape and heritage. A
scientific approach to highlighting these aspects can greatly contribute to the city's
branding efforts. By conducting thorough landscape assessments and heritage
surveys, comprehensive data can be gathered to identify unique features, such as
the city's coastal location, architectural landmarks, and archaeological sites.
Working on Saida's branding offers architecture and landscape students a
remarkable opportunity to engage with a city that boasts a wealth of historical and
natural assets. It allows them to contribute their expertise, gain practical
experience, and make a meaningful impact while exploring the rich cultural
heritage of Saida and shaping its future.
Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is a vibrant city that encapsulates the essence of
the country. With a population of over 2 million people, it serves as the political,
cultural, and economic hub of the nation. Renowned for its rich history, Beirut is a
treasure trove of diverse civilizations. From its Phoenician roots to Roman,
Byzantine, and Ottoman influences, the city bears the marks of centuries past. It
boasts a plethora of iconic landmarks, including the National Museum, Beirut
Corniche, Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque, and the reconstructed Beirut Souks.
Beirut's history of resilience and regeneration, most notably demonstrated after the
devastating 2020 blast, has solidified its status as a beacon of hope and a testament
to the strength of its people. The city has undergone significant reconstruction
efforts, and many landmarks and attractions have been restored or are in the
process of being rebuilt.
