1. A.) Yes, Emily was culture shock when she came to the apartment, her apartment didn’t
have an elevator and there the first floor is a ground floor. The next day and the first time
she came to her office in Paris and met new people she should kiss on the cheek while in
America we just shake hands with new people.
B.) - The first phase is the honeymoon, when Emily just arrived in Paris (in the car)
looking at the street , she was smiling widely and took some pictures for her instagram.
She is very excited about Paris.
- The second is the negotiation phase. It still happened in episode 1, when Emily started
to learn about the number of floors in her apartment but sometimes she wrong open
someone else’s apartment. Also next Emily didn’t learn French so she uses Google
Translate to communicate, and when she has a meeting with her partner, she is so
excited and speaks louder, her friend reprimanded for tone her voice. Tomorrow when
she comes to the office she comes earlier.
- third phase is adjustment, emily started to think and respon her friend’s joke towards
Emily with her sassiness. Next Emily can handle Parisian’s rudeness and also she can
go to the market to buy what she needs for herself.
- In the last phase is adaptation. Here Emily had to learn about Paris with their
character and now she can communicate with each other with a wider knowledge of
french vocabulary and begins to understand about french. During her time in Paris,
she became an influencer in her instagram because she always posts her activity in
Paris.
2. - Yes, she did. because it was Emily's first time coming to Paris and she didn’t learn
about Paris previously. Especially in her office, communication is very important for
Emily and her partner. But when Emily can’t speak French she has problems and
difficulty speaking with people in there so she uses Google Translate.
- From my view after watched this movie cultural conflict occurs because they have
different culture, language, behavior and mindset between America and Paris.

Emily colleagues has a culture like ordering someone to promote their product without
themself and they think this is good decision in their culture, and they think Emily
invitation to promote their product in sosial media like instagram is too much.
- misinterpretation,
I think it happened during the first meeting between Emily and her new partner in Paris.
People think why Emily speaks louder it looks like Emily is angry. but in the scene
Emily looks excited with her big voice and she thinks she is very excited.
 -Stereotype
We saw Emily come to her office 2 hour earlier but in Luc's opinion (French people)
think Emily is a co-worker.
3. I my personal view nor Emily or her colleagues is wrong because
- Emily didn’t learn about Paris and their language, but her colleague didn’t appreciate
Emily's willingness to learn and they don’t want to mingle with Emily.
- Also her colleagues were wrong because they didn’t want change, they think their
culture of ordering people to promote something is the right decision without them
getting involved.
- They think Emily is too superior.
4. If I were Emily I would learn about a country that I would visit for a long time (work),
but there are some Emily attitudes that I will to do, like be nice to each other and prove
the best as she can.
5. I will be Emily friend and accompany her because it’s so sad that we live alone and feel
lonely, and maybe we can learn together about our culture.
