vamos a leer algunos CVs y pronto van a escribir su propio CV en inglés!

Take a look at these jobs and professions. Which words do you already know? Can
you add some others?
Learning from others
In the following video, you’re going to see different people introducing themselves.
They are going to mention what they did before they became refugees and what they
do now.

While watching: Watch the video and write down what their jobs and professions are.

Reading comprehension practice: CVs / LinkedIn profiles

Before reading:

What do you generally expect to find in a CV? Do you know the difference between a
CV and a resume? What’s a LinkedIn profile? Do you have one? What advantages and
disadvantages of having an online professional profile can there be?

In the following sites CV I / CV II there are examples of a CV. Before we read the
introductions and the CVs, we are going to focus on some important reading
strategies:

• skimming and scanning.


• paratext
• transparent words / cognates
• linguistic borrowings

Now surf both sites (CVs) and share some differences and similarities.

After reading:

With the class, discuss the following questions:


• What’s the difference between a CV and a resume according to the texts? Do
we make that difference in Argentina?
• What are the key elements of a CV? What information could you leave out?
• What are some of the tips we need to bear in mind when writing a CV?
• Have you ever written a CV in English? How about Spanish?
