PE - Module 1: PHYSICAL FITNESS ASSESSMENT

Physical Activity – a movement of the body that requires energy expenditure


Physical Fitness – the state of health and well-being and connected to physical activity; involves
movement
Physical Fitness Assessment – serves as a baseline and identifies the current fitness level of the
body.
Physical Fitness Results:
- Set Goals for staying active
- Improving fitness outcomes
Two major components of Physical Fitness:
1. Skill-related Fitness – the ability to do well in everyday life activities and sports. e.g. Agility
2. Health-related Fitness – ability to stay physically healthy. e.g. Cardiovascular Endurance
Physical Fitness related to Dance:
Agility – ability to change and control the direction and position of the body

PE – Module 2: HEALTH RELATED FITNESS


Cardiovascular Endurance – ability of the heart to provide oxygen to muscles during physical
activity for a prolonged period of time.
Physical Activity – bodily movement produced by skeletal muscle
Exercise – a planned, structured and repetitive bodily movement that improve or maintain
physical fitness.
1. Locomotor Skills – movements that allows you to move from one place to another. e.g. step,
walk, run, leap, jump
2. Non-Locomotor Movements – stationary movements; you cannot transfer from one place to
another. e.g. extension, twist, rotation, turn

PE – Module 3: Festival Dance – KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL


- An annual festival in the city of Davao
- Derives from the friendly greeting “MADAYAW” a Dabawenyo word meaning good, valuable,
superior, beautiful.
- a celebration of life, thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, wealth of culture, bounties of harvest
and serenity of living.
- Held in the 3rd week of August every year; highlighting the 11 tribes of Davao City
2019 – held from August 2 – August 31, 2019
2020 – August 10 – August 17, 2020
HISTORY
- In ancient times, the people of Davao came to Mt. Apo to show gratitude to their deity.
- Offered fruits, farm products, vegetables and rice.
- The ritual was meant to honor the “Manama” (Supreme Being) and Bulan (Moon Deity)
1970 – Mayor Elias B. Lopez encouraged all the Davao tribes to showcase their thanksgiving
rituals.
1986 – Davao City government focused on uniting the people in the turbulent times of the
Martial Law; the festival was named as “Apo Diwaling”
Apo Diwaling – a combination of three natural wonders: Mt. Apo, Durian and Waling-waling
1988 – Officialy named as KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL by then Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte
Present – The festival celebrated with full of enthusiasm and unity in the people.
Festival Highlight: Magnificent floral floats, street dance competitions and exhibits that
showcases the island’s original culture and history.

PE – Module 4: ELEMENTS OF MOVEMENT IN SPACE

Rhythm (Regular recurrence of a beat – Maybe slow, moderate or fast; o An element of rhythm
called TEMPO
Level – level of movement; maybe high, medium or low
Range – scope of movement execution; dictated by the space provided.
Floor Pattern/Design – designs that created in the floor by the bodies of dancers; maybe
geometric or non-geometric
Direction – variety of movement; maybe forward, backward, sideward or even upward
Focus – focal point of dancer’s attention while moving.
Locomotor Movement Step – basis of all locomotor movements; prepares you to move in any
direction you wish to go.
Examples:
WALK – series of steps executed by both of your feet alternately in any direction
RUN – series of walk executed by both feet in alternate direction
JUMP – having both feet lose its contact with the ground; spring on both feet and land on both
feet
