Newtons’ First Law Important;

Mathematically, net force = 0 or dv/dt = 0
• When the sum of forces acting on a particle is zero, its
velocity is constant. In particular, if the particle is initially
stationary, it will remain stationary

Newtons’ Second Law 2nd law: d (Mv) / dt or m dv/dt

F = ma
• When the sum of forces acting on a particle is not
zero, the sum of the forces is equal to the rate of
change of linear momentum of the particle.
• If the mass is constant, the sum of the forces is
equal to the product of the mass of the particle
and its acceleration.

Newtons’ Third Law Be careful, the equal and opposite force

of weight is the force on the object
• The forces exerted by two particles on each other are pulling the earth up; REVIEW
equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
