C.Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

I have here another another activity
for you class.
Okay, teacher.
Here are several pictures and I want
you to identify each pictures.
Do you find the activity
difficult?

Are any of you familiar with

the tools that are presented
today?
How do we call them?
(the teacher will point
someone to answer)

Okay, good. All those

pictures
are tools. But what specific
thing that those tools can be
used or designed to?

Very good! Thus, today we

will be
discussing all about
Computer Hardware Tools
and Equipment.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Before we will tackle the different
types of computer hardware tools,
let us define first what is a Tool?
(the teacher randomly calls students) A tool is a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task.

Tools range from a traditional metal cutting part of a machine to an element of a computer program that activates and controls a particular
function.

Very good.
(The teacher will give her
explanations)

So, once selected, use the

tool for
the purpose for which it was
designed. Not all tools come
with detailed instructions,
but there are those that do
spell out the safety—Do’s
and Don’ts for your safety.
Hence, the Environmental
Safety and Health Program
requires the following:
Okay, let’s read the Safe Use
of Tools.

 All tools should be kept

in good condition with
regular maintenance.
 The right tool should be
used for the right job.
 Each tool should be
examined before using
AND damaged or
defective tools should
not be used.
 Tools be operated
according to
manufacturer’s
instructions.
 The right protective
equipment for the tool
and activity be used.
E. Discussing new concepts #2
Computer hardware tools
are
classified into four types:
 Electro-Static Discharge
or ESD Tools
 Hand Tools
 Cleaning Tools
 Diagnostic Tools

Under electro-static
discharge
are the following tools:
 Anti-static wrist strap-
used to prevent ESD
damage to computer
equipment.
 Anti-static mat- used to
stand on or place
hardware on to prevent
static electricity from
building up.

While in Hand Tools, we

have:
 Flat head screwdriver-
used to loosen or tighten
slotted screws.
 Philips head
screwdriver- used to
loosen or tighten
crosshead screws.
 Torx screwdriver- used
to loosen or tighten
screws that have a star-
like depression on the
top, a feature that is
mainly found on laptop.
 Hex driver- sometimes
called a nut driver, is
used to tighten nuts in
the same way that a
screwdriver tightens
screws.
 Needle-nose plier- used
to hold small parts.
 Wire cutter- used to strip
and cut wires.
 Tweezers- used to
manipulate small parts.
 Part-retriever- used to
retrieve parts from
location that are too
small for your hand to fit.
 Flashlight- used to light
up areas that you cannot
see well.

The third one is cleaning tool

that consists of four tools,
such as:
 Lint-free cloth- used to
clean different computer
components without
scratching or leaving
debris.
 Compressed air- used to
blow away dust and
debris from different
computer parts without
touching the
components.
 Cable ties- used to
bundle cables neatly
inside and outside of a
computer.
 Parts organizer- used to
hold screw, jumpers,
fasteners and other small
parts and prevents them
from getting mixed
together.

And lastly, we have

Diagnostic
Tools namely:
 Multimeter- used to test
the integrity of circuits
and the quality of
electricity in computer
components.
 Loopback adapter- used
to test the functionality
of computer parts.
F. Developing mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)
Okay class, now that you have
been familiarized with the
Computer Hardware Tools and
Equipment, let us play a little
game. Yes, teacher!

Do you want to know what the

game is?

Okay, in the board, I have

created four columns for the ESD *Students nod*
Tools, Cleaning Tools, Hand
Tools, and Diagnostic Tools.
Now as I hold up a picture of a
tool, I will pick a name (students will be given a picture then asked to place it in the column that best fits it)
randomly, and if you are chosen,
you will come to the board, take
the picture, and place it in the
column based on their usage.
Understand?

Okay, now that the rules are

clear, let us begin!

(teacher randomly calls students

until all tools have been
categorized)

Very good, children.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

LO 3. Demonstrate the proper use of hand tools and equipment for computer hardware servicing.
Now, class, who among you here
have computers, either desktops or
laptops?

Okay, I see that some of you have at

least one. Now, have you ever
experienced having a broken
computer?

How does it feel?

What did you do to fix it?

Have you ever seen someone fixing

it?

What tools do they use? Are any of

them one of the tools that we have
discussed?

Okay, so sadly, we can’t go to the

laboratory because it is not our
schedule today. So, for you to
demonstrate it I want you to video
yourself demonstrating the proper
use of handtools and equipments.
The only available tools in your
home. Okay? And pass it next week.
So you still have enough time to do
it.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions

Why do you think it is important

for us to be able to identify these
different computer hardware
tools and materials?

I. Evaluating Learning
Okay class, for your quiz (students starting answering the quiz)
kindly get a ½ sheet of paper
and answer the following.
Eyes on the screen, please. I
will give you 20 minutes to
answer everything.
