Headmistress’s Speech for Launching the English Week

Bismillahirahmanirahim.
Thank you, to our MC, Miss Nur Fadilah binti Abd Rahim. My respected senior
assistants, Pn. Hasuna binti Othman, En. Hadi Danny Valentino, Tn. Hj. Marzuni bin Sanan,
my dedicated teachers and all my beloved pupils.
Assalamualaikum and a very good morning I bid to all of you.
Today is the beginning of our English Week. I would like to take this opportunity to
share with you some of my views on “How can we learn English effectively”.
Learning a language often requires both effort and time. You may have to double
your effort and triple your time when learning a second language. However, when you find
that you are able to master the target language at ease, the satisfaction you have is beyond
words. What I am referring to is, of course, English Language.
Learning English is necessary. Globalisation is in fact, bringing more people together
and turning English as the common language for communication. We may be hearing more
non-native speakers speaking English and a wider range of the “New English” around the
world. Therefore, the English learners today shouldn’t be worried about sounding exactly
like a native speaker but rather more concerned about how to use English effectively for
meaningful communication.
The best way to learn English is by using it. We can create our own English-speaking
environment right here in our school. Take the opportunity to speak in English through out
this English week without worrying weather it’s right or wrong. Pupils often say “I can’t
speak English well”. It may be true at the moment, but the self-fulfilling prophecy proves
that what we think is what we get. Instead, you should tell yourself, “I’ll try my best to
practice English”, you will soon see greater improvement not only in your English, also in
your confidence.
The English week offers you a great chance to experience learning English in a fun
way. It’s high time to remind ourselves “Practice makes perfect”. May I take this opportunity
to appeal to all English teachers to speak to pupils in English at all times. While pupils should
really try to speak in English as much as possible. With the effort of both teachers and
pupils, I’m sure we can enrich the English-speaking environment in our school. I wish the
English Week every success.
With that, I hereby launch the SK Kerubong 2023/2024 English Week. Thank you.
