 Modern Art 

-includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the
1970s, and denotes the styles and philosophy of the Art produced during that era. The term is usually
associated with Art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of
experimentation
 Contemporary Art -meaning “the Art of today,” more broadly includes artwork produced during the
late 20th and early 21st centuries. It generally defines Art produced after the Modern Art movement to
the present day.

American period
Painting- subjects ay more on sa landscapes mga scenreries yun like mountains, hills, rivers, etc.
mga public places din like plaza tapos background ay kabundukan o di kaya mga taong maglalakad
as an example tapos background beachside .

Portraiture naman ay mga portrait o images ng mga tao usually mga parokyano ng painter o subject
ni painter

Genre mga iba ibang style o disiplina sa painting like, impressionism, realism, baroque, renaissance
etc.
Still life yung mga subject na given sa lamesa na focus ay ang item like fruits, jars etc.

Sculpture- free standing naman ay yung mga sculptures sually mga statues na di nakadikit sa isang
bato o nakaukit sa mismong pader o bato,
Relief naman ay mga sculpture na nakadikit pa sa pinakukitan
Public naman mga malayang gawa ng artist na nakadisplay para makita ng publiko either relief o
free standing yan.
Architecture- self explanatory because that time yan ang mga implemented during American
Period.

Japanese Period
Painting and sculpture- wartime scenes kasi world war 2 dati at heto mga nagiging subject ng artist
And heto yung parang propaganda nila to eradicate Japanese occupation kasi marahas ang mga
hapon noon sa mga pinoy that time

Pero di tulad ng ibang naunang sumakop sa atin ang mga hapon promoted parin n ila ang cultura at
tradisyon natin because they are culture lovers yun ang indiginizing and orientilizing which using the
own materials locally abundant sa lugar, locally nangyayari o ginagawa sa lugar. At evident yun sa
mga later na gawa nina amorsolo, Francisco during the wartime.

Architecture- public works mga gusali para sa gobyerno they don’t have some touch of Japanese
probably kasi wartime noong time na nanakop sila.

Post-war

Painting and sculpture- ditto lalong umusbong ang modern art and trying to explore and
experiment ng mga ibat ibang expression sa art

While anf contemporary as product of post war ay more on sa pagtalakay sa mga social issues and
concern sa bansa, advocacies, silent protests. Figurative details of subject the traditional non
figurative naman ay expression, art for art sake naman ay may mga artist na gumagawa ng artdahil
maganda, believing na for beauty only ang art nirereproduce sa mga may gusto, they not following
the standard of art. Mix media naman ay using two or more medium to create art, multi media ay
gumagamit ka ng maraming medium to create art.

Difference between modern and contemporary art

Ang modern art ay ang naunang art form before contemporary, ang modern art ay ang art na nag
emerged 1860s to 1960s kasunod nun ay ang contemporary which is the present natin artform.

Ang kaya ang name ay modern kasi heto ang movement na nireject ng mga artist that time ang
dating traditional standards ng art at niyakap ang abstract at expression, more on feelings than skill
while contemporary is more on subjects nya ay social issues and concerns.
