We can use ‘extreme’ adjectives to help emphasize our points and to respond to
news. All of the adjectives below mean ‘very good’ or ‘very bad’. Put them in the
correct column.

brilliant, appalling

Quiz your partner by saying an extreme adjective. Your partner must respond with
‘very good’ or ‘very bad’.

Practice saying the sentences above by emphasizing the extreme adjectives. The
words should be stressed and given appropriate intonation.
Example: Littering is horrible for the environment.

3 PRACTICE
A. Practice 1: Read the comments to your partner who must respond appropriately
depending on the comment.

Student A:
