Proper Segregation of Waste (R.A 9003).mp4

Waste- is everything that no longer has use or purpose and needs to be disposed of
Segregation- properly disposing the wastes according to its type
During the Lesson Discussion after the video presentation.
D. Discussing new
concepts and practicing PROPER WASTE MANAGEMENT
new skills #1 Improper waste disposal and the increasing amount of trash/garbage
produced are one of the major problems faced by people not only in our community
but also in the whole world. Problems on improper waste disposal have caused
other problems such as clogged drainage or canals, flooding and diseases. Hence,
there is a need for people to find ways on how to address these problems because it
is our responsibility to protect our environment and this is through proper waste
management. Proper waste management involves the use of garbage as a valuable
resource. This can be done by applying the 3R’s- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
1. Reduce- lessening the amount of trash/garbage that produced.
2. Reuse-using materials repeatedly
3. Recycle- using materials to make new products.

WASTE SEGREGATION
To make the 3R’s work, there is a need to segregate trash or garbage.
First, know what trash or garbage can be recycled and which ones are not.
Biodegradable-are materials which undergo decay or decomposed. Make a compost
out of decaying materials. Compost are waste materials that are recycled as fertilizer.
Examples: vegetables and fruit peelings, dead animals, spoiled food, animal and
human waste and many more.

Non-biodegradable –waste or garbage that cannot be broken down or decomposed.

Examples: paper, plastic, metal and glass. This is called waste segregation. In
segregating our waste, we will use Yellow trash bins for metal, Green trash bins for
glass, Red trash bins for plastic and Blue trash bins for paper.
Recyclables- wastes or garbage that cannot be broken down or decomposed but can be
reused or recycle. It can be used to make new products.
Examples: plastic containers, bottles, glass
Hazardous/Infectious- wastes/garbage from hospitals, clinics or other medical
purposes. They can also be empty container of insecticides, pesticides. These are
wastes that cannot be recycled, reuse or use as compost.
Example: syringes, medicine bottle, needles, dextrose container, etc.

E. Discussing new Boardwork:

new skills #2 Select 3 learners to answer the activity.

F. Developing Mastery Differentiated Activities:

Group 1: “Where Do I Belong?”

Segregate each waste/garbage according to their type to its corresponding box.

(sample pic of wastes)

Group 2: “Are You Puzzled?”

Answer the puzzle using the guide/description given each number.
Group 3: “Give Me 5”
List down 5 uses/new product of each given recyclable material.

RECYCLABLE MATERIALS NEW PRODUCTS

1. used dextrose container 1.
2. empty carton 2.
3. glass bottle 3.
4. used tire/ligid 4.
5. broken basin 5.
