Design a Zoo Challenge

The Challenge: Use the materials on the next few pages to design a zoo. Your zoo
must follow the rules and regulations below. The goal is to include as many an-
imal exhibits as possible but make sure your exhibits are large enough!

Rules:
1. Your zoo must have a ticket house at the entrance.
2. Your zoo must have walkways for guests to travel between exhibits.
3. Your zoo must have at least one bathroom.
4. Your zoo must have as many animal exhibits as possible but they must be
large enough for the animals to be comfortable.
5. Everything at your zoo must fit inside the black lines that mark the borders of
your zoo.

Directions:
 Everything in your zoo must fit within the black border lines above.
 Use the grid paper on the next page to cut out exhibits for each animal and glue them into your zoo. Don’t
forget to make them large enough for each animal!
 Cut out the animals and glue them into their exhibits.
 Cut out the other buildings and elements and glue them into your zoo.
 Don’t forget to leave pathways between exhibits for guests to get around!
 Use the blank table to record the area and perimeter of each of your animal exhibits.
 Color your zoo! Feel free to add other things to your zoo like benches and plants.
 Cut out your zoo and area/perimeter table and glue to construction paper. Give your zoo a name!
Carefully cut around the objects below that you want to include in your zoo. Tip: you do not have to
cut them out exactly on the lines!
