Before watching  (10 minutes)
Warmer
Elicit the adjective favourite, checking that students recall
it from the SB. Write it on the board. Ask students for
examples of their favourite things: favourite food, drink,
film, music, pastime, etc. Write students’ answers on the
board.
1 Ask students to work with a partner and answer the
questions. After the warmer, students should now be
comfortable with the concept of favourite. This activity
has them focus on favourite places and things in their
home countries. This is narrowing down the focus of the
discussion in preparation for the video, in which people
talk about where they are from and their favourite places
or amazing things in their home country.
Monitor and help students if they make any errors. Have a
class feedback session eliciting ideas from various pairs,
then focus on any language issues.
2 Have students focus on the pictures, then ask them to
match the pictures to the words. They can work in pairs or

understand them. Play the full video clip and ask students

5 r Ask students to watch I’m in Oxford and match the
people with the information. Check that they understand
the vocabulary before watching. Elicit answers from the
whole class.

After watching  (10 minutes)
6 Focus students’ attention on the sentences in the speech
bubbles. Check that they understand all of the vocabulary.
Then put them in pairs and have them tell each other
about their hometown. Be sure that students understand
they can use the language in the speech bubbles, and just
need to switch in key information from their hometown.
Circulate and give students help if they do not know any
vocabulary they would like to include. Make a note of any
class feedback session eliciting details from various pairs,
then focus on any language issues.
Extension
This is a writing extension activity, although students will
be able to use what they write to talk about the city in the
next class.
Tell students that their favourite place could be a city,
town, restaurant, tourist site, etc. It could even be their
own house.
Provide an example with your own photo. Describe the
place using the adjectives provided (and the sentences in
the After watching section) as a model.
Ask them to bring their photos and sentences to the next
lesson to share with each other.
