Admission to PG Programmes

Admission to M.Tech programmes

CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M/Arch/M/Plan admisisons) is a


common platform for candidates to apply for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./M.Des.
programmes, based on their GATE score, in all NITs, IIEST Shibpur, and some
IIITs & GFTIs.

NITK Surathkal admits students through CCMT for all the M.Tech programmes.
For all guidelines, the prospective candidates are advised to carefully read the
information brochure and various other documents which will be available in
CCMT website. CCMT-2022 is being organized by Malaviya National Institute
of Technology, Jaipur.

These students will receive GATE-Scholarship for the duration of four semesters,
which is subjected to the GATE-Scholarship rules of MHRD.

Admission to a M.Tech. Programme is open to candidates who have passed the


prescribed qualifying examination, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average
(CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60%
marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects
of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed
period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a
CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

The qualifying degree eligibility details for various programmes will be available
in CCMT website.

A limited number of seats are available to sponsored student from Industry or


other Organizations including Educational Institutions under sponsored category
for Full time M.Tech programmes. These students shall be sponsored and
financed by the sponsoring organization. He/she should produce a sponsorship-
cum-clearance certificate in the given format of the Institute. The candidate must
have a minimum of 2 years of Full-time work experience in the sponsoring
organization, after completing the qualifying degree.
Admission to M.Sc programme

CCMN (Centralized Counselling for M.Sc., MSc.(Tech) admissions) is a


common platform for candidates to apply for M.Sc./ M.Sc. (Tech.) programmes
in NITs and other CFTIs, based on their JAM score.

NITK Surathkal admits students through CCMN for M.Sc (Physics) and M.Sc.
(Chemistry). Admission to M.Sc programme in Chemistry/Physics at NITK is
open to Indian nationals who have passed B.Sc degree with Chemistry as one of
the subjects for M.Sc. Chemistry and Physics as one of the subject for M.Sc.
Physics, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-
10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking
into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/University
examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree
programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55%
marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Admission to MBA programme

Admission process begins in the month of January/February of every year with


the publication of notification. CAT/MAT/GATE score is essential to apply for
the programme. Admission to MBA Programme is open to Indian nationals who
have passed Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a Recognized University
with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale
grading system, OR not less than 50% marks in the aggregate (taking into account
the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/University examinations
conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme).
However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 OR 45% marks in the
aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Admission to MCA programme

Admission to this programme is through NIMCET, a centralised entrance test for


all such programmes at various NITs in India. Admission to MCA programme at
NITK is open to Indian nationals who have passed the prescribed qualifying
examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in
the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate
(taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the
public/University examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for
the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be CGPA of
6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The prescribed
qualifying examinations are, (i) B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT / B.Voc.
(Computer Science/ Computer Applications)/ BBA (Computer Applications) of
minimum three years full-time programme from a recognized University with
Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects OR (ii) B.E./ B.Tech. from a
recognized University

Admission to M.Tech (Res) Programme

M.Tech (Research) programmes are offered in all the specializations available


under M Tech. The admission process to M.Tech (Res) Programmes will begin
in the Month of April every year with the publication of notification.

Admission to a M.Tech (Research) Programme shall be open to Indian nationals


who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade
Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not
less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all
the subjects of all the public/University examinations conducted during the entire
prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum
shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD
candidates.

Valid GATE score is essential for scholarship seats.

Student Status: There are four types of student status in the M.Tech (Research)
Degree Programme.

a) Full time student on GATE scholarship.


b) Full time student sponsored from Industry or other organization

c) External Registrants – Student Sponsored from Industry or other


Organizations.

d) Internal Registrants - sponsored institute or project staff of NITK

Student of the type (a) will receive GATE scholarship for the duration of four
semesters, which is subjected to GATE scholarship rules of MHRD. Student of
the type (b & c) shall be sponsored and financed by the sponsoring organization.
They are not entitled for Institute scholarship. He/she must have minimum of 2
years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization, after
completing the qualifying examination. External Registrants are expected to
carry-out their research work in their parent organization after fulfilling certain
prerequisites in the Institute. External registrants may have an additional
Research Guide from the sponsoring organization. In case of external registrants,
residential requirement may be waived and they may be permitted to complete
their course work by opting for (pre-approved by DPGC) certified courses. An
internal student of type (d) shall produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate
from the Director, NITK.

Admission to Full time Self- financed PG Programmes

(M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA and MBA programmes)

NITK Surathkal admits students for the Full time self -financed M.Tech., M.Sc.,
MCA and MBA programmes. A limited number of seats are available under this
category. The candidates who fulfil the prescribed minimum eligibility criteria
as given in the following section may apply for the same. The student who is
selected under the Full time self-financed category will not receive any
scholarship/assistantship. The admission process to self-financed PG
programmes will begin in the Month of May every year with the publication of
notification.

A). M.Tech. Programme (Common to all M.Tech Programmes): Admission is


open to Indian nationals who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination
with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale
grading system, OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account
the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/University examinations
conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme).
However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the
aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

B). MBA Programme: Admission to MBA Programme is open to Indian nationals


who have passed Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a Recognized
University with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the
0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 50% marks in the aggregate (taking
into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/University
examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree
programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 OR 45%
marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

C). M.Sc Programmes: Admission to M.Sc programme in Chemistry/Physics is


open to Indian nationals who have passed B.Sc degree with Chemistry as one of
the subjects for M.Sc. Chemistry and Physics as one of the subject for MSc
Physics, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-
10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking
into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/University
examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree
programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55%
marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

D). Admission to MCA programme is open to Indian nationals who have passed
the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average
(CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60%
marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects
of all the public/University examinations conducted during the entire prescribed
period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be
CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The
prescribed qualifying examinations are, (i) B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT /
B.Voc. (Computer Science/ Computer Applications)/ BBA (Computer
Applications) of minimum three years full-time programme from a recognized
University with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects OR (ii) B.E./
B.Tech. from a recognized University.
Selection of candidates for admission to Self-Financed PG programmes will be
based upon the academic performance in the qualifying examinations, written test
and interview with due weightage for each component as specified by the DPGC
of the concerned department.
