Today was the first day that Stephanie was back in the office, so I started to work on the
Resource Management project again for the whole day. I finished the first part last week, so I
asked Stephanie to look over it to make sure there was nothing that she wanted me to change and
started to work on the next part. The next part was very similar to what I was doing, but instead
of organizing by plan, I started to organize by categories, so that way they can look quickly to
see what resources are under which category instead of having to look through each individual
plan.
I had a terrible migraine this morning and low-grade fever so I emailed the Director of
the Office of Emergency Management Greg Swanson, because my supervisor is out all week,
and he told me to stay home and if I started to feel a little better, I could work on the resource
management project for a little at home to get some hours for the day. I got up around 10:00
A.M. and felt a little better so I worked for a few hours and then took the rest of the day to rest
through the document that I am sorting by category, but I did not completely finish it. I plan on
trying to get most of it done tomorrow, but I am attending a sheltering review tomorrow with
Elizabeth Czarick 2
Stephanie for the Red Cross. If I do not finish it tomorrow I will most likely be able to complete
it by Friday.
Today was a very busy day with the Red Cross and the meeting I attended with Stephanie
and Ashley. This meeting was about the sheltering protocols for disasters in the different
“regions” of Georgia. Everyone at this meeting was from the Metro Atlanta area, and I saw a few
people from the different Emergency Management Agencies (EMA) that I have met at the
previous conferences and meetings I have attended. The main focus of the meeting was trying to
figure out where there may be some “disconnects” between the Red Cross and the various
EMA’s in regard to disasters that have happened in the past, as well as the verbiage of some
things. For example, the Atlanta-Fulton County EMA pointed out that their definition of
“misplaced” varies from that of the Red Cross, so they further defined it to say that misplaced
people are those whose housing is destroyed with no other options to go and stay, such as family,
friends, hotel, etc. This meeting was very interesting because I learned more about the Red
Cross’ involvement with EMA’s as well as met some new people. I met the entire staff of the Red
Cross Atlanta Headquarters, as well as got a business card from the Disaster Program Manager. I
also got to meet one of the Regional Directors of GEMA. After the meeting we returned to the
office where I continued working on the resource management project, which I hope to be
Today I finished up the next part of the resource management project. Once I was done with that
Ashley asked if I could help her with something that she needed to do for GEMA’s accreditation
program. This included looking at a list of all of the critical infrastructure in Gwinnett County

and finding out what was located at each address. I was just given the addresses along with what
section of the Gwinnett County government owns them, but she was explaining to me that
GEMA needs the names of each place in order to continue the accreditation process.
