No Internship- Campus Closed

Wednesday, July 5th

This morning I started by looking over the resource management plans to refamiliarize

myself with them since it has been a few weeks since I last worked with them. After that I sat in

on a staff training meeting where we were taught about the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)

that the county has available for its residents to sign up for. The WEA is used primarily for

weather events such as tornados, floods, and severe storms but it can also be used for a

widespread notification system if there were a missing person or something that the community

needed to be made aware of. We were all shown how to send out an alert and told the guidelines

for deciding if one needs to be sent out. After that meeting, I returned back to looking over the

resource management plans and I discussed with Stephanie about meeting tomorrow morning to

discuss what I will be doing next, as well as how she wants me to format everything.

Thursday, July 6th

Today when I arrived in the office Stephanie started to explain a little bit of what else I

will be doing with the Resource Management Project, but she ended up have meetings for almost

the entire day, so she gave me the rest of the day after lunch to work on some of my project. I

worked on that for a little bit until Ashley asked if I was interested in looking at some of the

school safety plans that she has been reviewing. I thought it was really cool to see how many

different events that the school’s plan for in their safety plans. Ashley was also explaining to me

how the Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management have started to do active

shooter drills with the schools around the county to ensure that the staff is fully prepared in the

event that there is an active shooter situation. Although it is sad that this is such an important part

of the school safety plans that Ashley works on, it is very necessary to do these drills.

Friday, July 7th

Today was a very slow day as most people in the office were out for vacation time. I was

supposed to meet with Stephanie today to talk more about the resource management project, but

she ended up not being in because she was sick. Since Stephanie was not in today, I spent the day

looking over some more of the school safety plans as well as spending some time on my E-

portfolio since my supervisor told me I could work on something personal for school if I wanted

to.
