LAYOUT OF INSTRUMENTS OF VSU-PAGASA AGROMET STATION

I. INTRODUCTION

The Agrometeorological Station (Agro-Met) is another derivative station using

the advanced remote data-acquisition unit (arQ) geared with multi-parameter weather
sensors which can simultaneously measure wind speed and direction; air temperature;
air humidity; air pressure, rain amount, duration and intensity, soil moisture and
temperature, solar radiation, and sunshine duration. The station gets data from the
sensor for transmission via SMS or Satellite network. (dost.gov)

The station gets data from the sensor for transmission via SMS or Satellite
network. The device was developed to reduce vulnerability of the agriculture
specifically resource-poor upland farmers and communities to the impacts of climate
change and related natural disasters through timely and accurate data monitoring.

Agrometerological Station is ultimate goal of agricultural meteorology is to

extend and fully deploy knowledge of atmospheric and related processes to optimize
agricultural production, and hence to increase profitability, decrease risk, and feed an
expanding global population.

At this lab exercise, students will be able to recognize and identify the many
instruments present in the VSU-PAGASA agrometeorological station, as well as define
the unique roles and create a standard arrangement of VSU-PAGASA
Agrometeorological Station.

Vision: A globally competitive university for science, technology, and environmental conservation.
Mission: Development of a highly competitive human resource, cutting-edge scientific knowledge and
innovative technologies for sustainable communities and environment.
II. METHODOLOGY
This laboratory exercise was conducted to the VSU-PAGASA Agromet Station. The
whole class went/ tour in agromet station were the students gathered useful information
about it through discussion and demonstration of different instruments that will be found
in VSU-PAGASA Agromet Station conducted by the assigned person on the station to
orient, familiarize and to what is all about and their used. The teacher will offer more
information on the equipment, or the student can perform their own study into the
agromet station and the instrument utilized. Following the tour and presentation, the
student must create a page-sized scale plan or layouts of the VSU-PAGASA Agromet
Station enclosed by the fence, indicating the north direction, relative placements of the
building, shelters, instruments, and research area, and labeling them. Students can
use any drawing software (AutoCAD, QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.) or draw by hand. Indicate
the agromet station's location (longitude and latitude) as well as its height above mean
sea level. This report depicts the many instruments available in the VSU- PAGASA
agromet station, and the entire class is identified

3.3 Guide questions:
1. Define an agrometeorological station and give its purpose.
Agrometeorological station is a is another derivative station using the advanced remote
data-acquisition unit (arQ) geared with multi-parameter weather sensors which can
simultaneously measure wind speed and direction; air temperature; air humidity; air pressure,
rain amount, duration and intensity, soil moisture and temperature, solar radiation, and
sunshine duration. The purpose is to collect meteorological and biological data. A weather
station will help manage crops more efficiently for climatic knowledge into agriculturally usable
information by obtaining and supplying contemporaneous meteorological and biological data,
and it is also in charge of transmitting agricultural advice, warning, prediction, bulletin, and
other agriculturally valuable information.

2. List the criteria for choosing a good site for an agromet station. Is the site of the
VSUPAGASA Agromet Station properly chosen? Why?
The criteria for choosing a good site for an agromet station are the following, as a
cover, the site must not be composed of concrete or asphalt. Perimeter fences are required to
secure the site. The instrument is very important and must be oriented north. Data monitoring
is possible. Maintenance and operation. Flood free region and fairly-level and the site has no
ownership or security issues. The VSU-PAGASA Agromet Station is located in a broader
region that is free of obstructions, making it excellent for obtaining meteorological data.

3. Answer the following questions/problems.

a. Why is an Agromet station important to agriculture?
The Agromet station is important to agriculture because are providing farmers vital
information on climatic and soil conditions, enabling them to grow and irrigate their crops more
effectively.

b. What is an automatic weather station (AWS), and name the instruments that belong to this
station?
The automatic weather station (AWS) is a tool used to measure and keep track of local
meteorological characteristics in real-time, including temperature, humidity, and wind speed.
The AWS can be utilized as an early warning system and for weather forecasting (EWS).
Instruments that belong to the stations as follows
- One (1) unit Advanced Remote Data-Acquisition Unit (arQ)
- One (1) unit Multi-parameter sensor
- One (1) unit Rain gauge sensor
- Two (2) units Soil moisture and temperature sensor
- One (1) unit 15W Solar Panel
- One (1) Mechanical Mountings and sensor housing

IV. CONCLUSION
This laboratory exercise it is very useful become acquainted with and recognize the
different weather forecasting devices at the VSU-PAGASA Agromet station. It will also
aid in determining the function of each instrument and the best site for establishing an
agromet station, which is necessary for gathering meteorological data that is extremely
useful in agricultural aspects. Agricultural production is for a large part still dependent
on weather and climate. Agrometeorological services have become essential because
of the challenges provided to many forms of agricultural production by increasing
climate variability and associated extreme events as well as climate change, all of
which affecting the socio-economic conditions, and teaches us how to select the
optimal time to grow or harvest, as well as how to understand the weather and
environment and how to utilize the equipment that will be used in our future activities
in our many areas of expertise.
