Agricultural tractors or farm tractors are agricultural vehicles that are commonly used

in farms for a variety of purposes depending on the work and attachment fitted to the tractor

since it helps the farmers to complete and finish a list of task effectively and efficiently. An

agricultural tractor has large wheels and powerful motor which is typically used in farming. A

tractor is specifically designed and created to deliver a high tractive or torque at slow speed

for versatile purposes like hauling a trailer or for machinery in agriculture used in tilling.

Farm tractors can be used alongside with different farm equipments existing to carry out a

variety of agricultural tasks.

One of the most important and essential farm machinery is a farm tractor since it is

used widely in a distinctive, and as a multi-purpose vehicle in the agricultural industry. Farm

tractors has many more uses where it can be used for pushing or pulling trailers and other

agricultural machinery. Tractors can also be used for ploughing in preparation for initial

cultivation of soil for planting and sowing seed. An agricultural tractor can also be used for

tilling purposes in order to till the soil in order to plant crops wherein a disc harrow is placed

and implemented on the tractor.

In the last meeting for the laboratory subject, the parts and functions of a tractor were

discussed before letting the students experience and learn how to drive a tractor. The parts of

the tractors were carefully taught to the students in order to be familiarized on how to operate

the tractor. The tractor used is a four wheel tractor. After the discussion, the students were

gathered on a wide vacant field of the school where the practice driving would take place.

An instructor was present and also guided the students with additional reminders and

pointers to remember. Each students was given at least three to four minutes each to operate

and practice driving a tractor with an instructor present on the tractor to guide the students.

The purpose of having an instructor in the moving tractor is to minimize the chance of

getting into an accident and preserving the safety of the students while performing the

operation.
First, climbing on the tractor while facing the tractor would avoid getting into an

accident since the steps on the tractor is clear of obstruction and very visible. After getting

comfortable on the seat of the tractor, the hand throttle, shuttle shift lever, gear shift lever,

and range gear lever should be checked if it is in neutral. Checking whether the levers are in

neutral would ensure that the tractor would not accelerate forward or reverse since it could

cause an accident. Before operating the tractor, make sure that the hand levers are in neutral.

After checking these levers, the ignition switch button should be turned on. Then

comfortably placed the left feet on the clutch pedal. Do not release the feet placed on the

clutch pedal recklessly as it could cause the tractor to move forward or backward

aggressively swift. Move the shuttle shift lever or the main gear and the range gear lever

forward, while still pressing on the clutch pedal. Put the gear shift lever on the first gear only

since it would be advisable to maintain low speed when only practicing how to drive a tractor.

After moving all the levers in their right places, slowly release the clutch pedal in order for

the tractor to accelerate forward and operate.

When driving the tractor, always look in front. Look where the tractor is going to

avoid crashing the tractor and to avoid going on places with obstructions. Always look ahead

of the tractor and not on the gears of the tractor. It is important to maintain being calm and

stay focused while driving the tractor. Hold the steering wheel properly while maneuvering

the tractor on the right track and path which the tractor should go to. Maintain the low speed

and listen to the instructor carefully to ensure that the right things are being followed.

Next, when reversing the tractor or moving backward, do not look on the tractor itself

and do not look in front. Put the left feet on the clutch pedal while looking only at the back of

the tractor. The side mirror of the tractor could also be used when moving backward but it is

best advisable by the instructor that looking at the back of the tractor would be better. This is

to ensure that there would be no obstruction while reversing the tractor and also to avoid

running over objects, animals, people, and other things.

After reversing the tractor, look in front and slowly release the feet pressing the clutch

pedal. maneuver the tractor on the right path while still maintaining the right speed. When the

destination is reached or when the tractor is back on the starting point, press the clutch pedal

to disengaged the engine of the tractor. According to the lecture instructor, it would be better

to press the brakes first before pressing the clutch pedal. However, since the driving of the

tractor is only operated to practice students the basics of driving a tractor. Do not do any

unnecessary movements unless stated by the instructor.

Lastly, when the tractor already stopped from moving, the hand throttle, shuttle shift

lever, gear shift lever, and range gear lever should be checked and placed back in neutral.

After putting the levers back in neutral, turn the ignition switch button off and pull the engine

off pull knob to turn off the engine of the tractor. When climbing up to the tractor, the student

should be facing the tractor as well as going down the tractor. When moving down in the

tractor, avoid turning back to the tractor to avoid getting slipped which may cause unwanted

situations. Go back down on the tractor while still facing the tractor and remember all the

steps that was operated for further and future purposes.
