INTRODUCTION
In this project an automatic water pump controller was implemented to control two tanks which
are parallel connected in Deduru Oya Mini Hydro Power Plant. All the regular works of the
plant is done with that water supply. It was operated manually, and that switch was located in
the storeroom, separate from the plant. Requirement of an automatically controlling motor was
occurred because of some difficulties faced by the workers. In order to automate the process,
it is designed to sense the water level and to control the pump according to that.
After studying the logic behind the sensor functioning, which is suitable for the tank water
level operation, suitable relay which is related to our required logic is found. Then all the
required components were listed and budgeted. Finally, after six working days the automatic
water pump controller system was installed, with the help of SLE officials.
This report includes the objectives, components, all the implementation steps with circuit
diagrams and the budget.

OBJECTIVES
• To minimize the difficulties faced by the workers.
• To utilize the manpower while making the motor operation more efficient and user
friendly.
• Two switches to function the manual and the auto operation

FUNCTIONALITY OF THE SYSTEM

Case 1: S2=0 & S1=0

S2
S1
Above mentioned circuit is related to this position where neither S1 no
S2 is closed. Therefore, motor is in on situation.

S2

Case 2: S2=1 & S1=0

S2
S1
When water is filling S2 become 1 position and S1 keep in 0
position. Therefore, motor is in keep on situation.

S1
S2
Case 3: S2=1 & S1=1
When both sensors reach to 1 motor off.

Case 4: S2=1 & S1=0

S2
S1
In this system the requirement is to keep the motor off when the water
level is falling and S1 become disconnected. (Latch operation) Therefore,
motor keeps off until the water level reaches to the S2 position.

Case 5: S1=0 & S2=0

S2
S1
After water level goes down and S2 loss their connections S2 become
open and again motor on.
