seek for your cooperation in this debate and please avoid making
interruptions. Thank you for your kind consideration.

Good afternoon everyone! Before we start, I would like to introduce

myself, I am Riza Begya and it is my pleasure to be your moderator today.
I would like to introduce you to our debaters this afternoon that will be
debating on the topic we will discuss. On my right side here is Ms. Lang-es and
on the left side is Ms. Enriquez. Debaters you may now start giving your statements.

Corina: I claim that technology makes people smarter for it allows us to easily
access and gain more ideas and information on internets that is useful in
acquiring more knowledge that will make us smarter.

Jefane: I disagree with her idea that technology makes people smarter. On the
contrary, I believe that technology makes people less creative and less idealistic
because technology allows people to just rely on the things they search on the
internet.

Corina: What made you think that technology makes people less creative and
idealistic? On these days, many people use the internet not just to depend on it
but to gain more ideas and information that makes them more knowledgeable.
With the use of technology, we can easily access information’s and works of
other people that can give us more learning’s and facts that is helpful for us in
understanding things around us. For example, researchers uses others
research works to gather more facts and information that is helpful and useful
on the research they are formulating. Hence, technology makes people easily
access information’s that will help them to make more interesting and helpful
ideas or works.
Jefane: I disagree with your statement, technology makes people rely on the
internet too much even with the littlest things or ideas, and it also allows or
causes people to engage on plagiarism or in copying others work and ideas. For
example, students nowadays seldom give or make their own ideas on the
things they do like in making their requirements, projects and assignments
because technology drives them to just search it on the internet which
sometimes drives the student in plagiarizing others work and ideas. It is also
the same when students do not have the courage to show their own ideas or
work because they are unsure and doubtful if the things or ideas they
formulate is correct, and because of technology, it causes the student to just
rely on the internet and copy ideas of others disregarding the work and ideas
they formulate. Hence, technology does not make them smarter, instead, it
allows them to easily access, rely, and copy other people’s ideas and work that
makes them more afraid in presenting their own work and ideas.

Corina: No thats not true at all, in fact, technology makes us more literate.
Technology produced applications like you tubes, emails, tweeters,
messengers, etc. that makes us to engage more in watching, reading, and
writing. We use these applications in our daily life resulting for us to be more
literate in writing, reading and in information’s we encounter which result us
in gaining knowledge that helps us to be smart.

Furthermore, having the technology makes teaching more easily. Teachers and
students right can have their class now with the use of mobile applications,
electronic devices, and internet which are the product of technology. Distance
is not a reason for the students now to not engage in learning because of the
help of technology. The production of calculators, microscopess and other devices that
helps in education and learning of students also proves that technology plays a big part in
making people more knowledgeable. This just proves that technology is helpful in
sharing knowledge and in learning, thus making people to be smarter.

Some studies also shows that the cognitive abilities of people have increased
steadily since 1930 and this just prove that with the presence of technology,
people become more smarter that leads them to create more work, ideas, and
inventions that is helpful for human life.
Jefane: I am sorry but you arguments are quite one sided, it’s true that technology is
the main factor on the existence of internets, mobile applications and electronic
devices but the point is, they are not really helpful in the progression of
intellectual capacity of people. In fact, studies shows that these mobile devices
and applications makes people specifically children and students become more
lazy and addictive in playing mobile games. This leads them to lose their focus
in their studies that results to the worst scenarios like dropping out in classes.
So technology does not really help in the education or in learning of children,
the use of technology actually make people become lazy, careless, and dumber.

The use of technology also results in many negative things that people mostly
experience nowadays. Some people like you claim that technology is helpful in
gaining more knowledge but it actually causes many complications on the
people who are engage with these. The evolution of technology does not only
make people to become lazy or less productive but it also affects their health.
The too much using of the technology for example smartphones, tablets and
laptops can lead people to be addictive on it, resulting for them to have
disrupted sleep. And we know that not having enough sleep can cause health
complications.

The use of technology, specifically mobile phones also affect the memory
performance of the brain because of their radiation, according to the study of
Swiss researchers that was published by the environmental Health
Perspectives. So for us, the technology does not really help people to be
smarter, instead, it just causes more negative things on us. We think that we
can still gain knowledge without the use of technology by sharing our
knowledge to each of everyone, this might be a slower process in the
progression of peoples learning capacity but at least we will not be having the
different risk of engaging with the technology and prevent endangering our own
health and lives.

Moderator : now that we hear your claims and arguments, please state not you closing
statements.

Corina: Thier statements may be true but still we cannot deny the fact that
technology is a big factor in the development of human knowledge. We still
believe that the evolution of technology is a very helpful factor in the different
aspects of people’s lives, in education, production of medicines, understanding
humans, development of countries, and many others. The only thing we just
need to do is to use the technology responsibly and moderately for us to avoid
the negative effects you have said that is commonly caused by too much
engaging with the technology.

Jefane: For me the existince of technology really brought a great impact on the lifestyle of
people and most of these impact are negative. Technology makes people lazy, irresponsible,
and it allows them to use their freedom of speech in a wrong way. We think that without the
presence of technology, people's life may not be as advance as we are now. we believe that life
will be more peaceful, simple and organized unlike what we have now wherein different issues,
mostly negatives,are being brought everyday. We still believe that the technology makes
people to be less idealistic and creative unlike what the other claims wherein they state that
technology is very helpful for people to never smarter.

Moderator: Now that we have listened to their claims, arguments, and statements. I am sure
all of you now also chooses the view which make sense the most. I appreciate the both side
for considering many things with their argument and congratulations to the both of you. But
for me, your moderator today, I will go with the idea of Ms. Lang-es , Technology may have
brought negative change on some.people but we cannot deny the fact that technology is one
of the biggest key I'm our society's improvement. It make people live easier and develop
helpful things we need in this life.
