Phrasal Verbs with Go

Objectives: To learn some phrasal verbs with go

Dictionary skills: Finding phrasal verbs, and if using the DVD-ROM, entering the phrasal
verb in the Search box
Tasks: A Match the phrasal verb with its meaning
B Unscramble the words to make sentences

Procedure

A  Students match the phrasal verbs with their meanings. They then look up go in the dictionary and
find the list of phrasal verbs at the end of the entry to check their answers. If they use the DVD-ROM,
they can enter the phrasal verb into the Search box. For example, searching for go after will produce a
pop-up window and they should click this to jump to the correct place in the entry.

Time:  15 minutes
Answers: 1 b  2 c  3 e  4 a  5 f  6 d

B  Students unscramble the sentences to make sentences which use the phrasal verbs from Part A. A
good follow-up activity would be for the students to choose 5 verbs from the list of phrasal verbs for
go and write a sentence using them. They can then read them to their partner in class, and see if their
partner knows the meaning of the phrasal verb.
