General objectives: at the end of this unit trainee should be able to install alarm signal circuit
As per I.E.E regulation.
Specific objective: at the this unit trainee should be able to
 Define single stroke bell
 Install single stroke bell
 Define tremble bell
 Install tremble bell
 Define buzzer
 Install buzzer
 Define continuous ringing bell
 Install continuous ringing bell
 Define indicator board
 Install indicator board
 Draw electrical diagram of all
ELEMENT 01: SINGLE STROKE BELL
What is the single stroke bell?
Single stroke bell is the one that is used in signaling purposes as in buses buses
mines offices in shops and other situation places where longer sound my disturb the workers
personnel.
Single stroke bell produces sounds in a single note.
CONSTRUCTION
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Single stroke bell working under a magnetic effect of electric current, when push
button(adjusting screw) of the bell pressed, the electromagnetic become energized, the armature
and striker is attracted causing a movement which brings the striker against the gong and
produce the sound.
For correct operation of this bell, push button(adjusting screw) must be pressed ON and
released OFF in quick movement, otherwise the sound of the note produced will be muffled by
the striker being held against the gong.
As soon as bell push is released, the armature returns to its original position.

ELEMENT 02: TREMBLER BELL

What is the trembler bell?
Tremble bell is that bell that automatically making and breaking the circuit of an
induction coil. Thus when pressed continuously will continual ringing, thus when pressed once
produces more than one sound note.
Tremble bell is used in houses, offices in commercial building, hospital.
CONSTRUCTION
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
When push pressed the current flows through the armature with striker to be attracted away
from this contact, the circuit is broken. The electromagnetic becomes de energized and the
armature falls back to its original position against the contact to remake it.
This movement occurs rapidly and for as long as bell push is pressed the cycle of operation is
repeated constantly until the circuit is opened at the bell push.

ELEMENT 03: THE CONTINOUS RINGING BELL

What is continuous ringing bell?
Continuous ringing bell is the basically like tremble bell, that has a mechanical or electrical
arrangement to make the bell continue to ringing after the bell push has been released.
CONSTRUCTION
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
When the bell push passed, the current will flow through the cods.
The small level placed bellow the contact screw on the first movement of the armature, this level
drops automatically and as it drops it short circuit the bell push to cause the bell to ring
continuously. The lever can be reset to stop the sound.
Its application is mostly used in alarm system.

ELEMENT 04 BUZZER
What is buzzer?
Buzzer is electrical device that is used to produce buzzing noise and its used in signaling.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
Buzzer is working based on the principle that whenever an electric potential is applied across a
piezoelectric material a pressure variation is generated.
Thus by oscillating the signal through the coil, the buzzer produces a fluctuating magnetic field
which vibrates the disk and produces sound.
TOTALIAL QUESTION
1. Explain the working principle of the single stroke bell.
2. Explain the working principle of the tremble bell
3. Explain working principle of the continuous ringing bell
4. Explain how does buzzer works.
