Review of Related Literature

Senior high school education is crucial for ensuring students’ academic success, as it serves
as the foundation for their future studies and career prospects. However, achieving academic
excellence in senior high school requires the development of effective study habits, which are
set of practices that help learners to retain, organize, and manage information. This study
aims to review the literature on study habits and their relationship with academic
performance in both Grade X1- Daffodil and Grade X11- Dandelion senior high school
learners in Lanipga National High School for the academic year 2022-2023.

Study Habits

Various studies have defined of study habits differently, but they generally refer to the
strategies and behaviours that learners use to acquire knowledge and skills in an educational
setting. According to Arieta, Gementiza, Saco (2007), highlighted study habits play
significant role in learner’s life. The success or failure of each learners depends on their study
habits. This study says and requires practice and effort. The success of each learners depends
on the ability, intelligence, and action of learners.

Academic Performance

Academic performance is an overarching term that encompasses cognitive, behavioural, and


effective aspects of learner’s performance in an educational setting. In the context of this
study, academic performance refers to learner’s grade, test scores, and overall achievement of
a learners.

In conclusion, the literature supports the notion that effective study habits are essential
academic success of a learner. Note-taking, reading, and concentration are integral
components of effective study. Teachers and parents can help promote these study habits by
providing guidance on how to manage take organized notes, use effective reading strategies,
and minimized distractions during study hours. Additionally, learners can benefit from being
self-directed in their learning and adopting effective study habits early to achieve academic
success.
