Tsunamis

Good morning dear parents and classmates, today I’m going to talk
about tsunamis.
When does this kind of natural disaster usually occur?
For a tsunami to originate, the sea floor must be abruptly moved
vertically so that a large mass of ocean water is propelled out of its
normal equilibrium. When this mass of water tries to regain its balance,
it generates large waves.
What are the consequences of this kind of natural disaster?
Here are some consequences:
Loss of life: As tsunamis are difficult to detect because the waves get
bigger as they get closer to the coasts, the population cannot be
prevented in enough time to move to higher areas far from the sea.
Destruction of houses: Due to the speed and force the waves move in
a tsunami, buildings and houses are destroyed by the energy carried
by the waves.
Changes and damage to the environment: When a tsunami happens,
the destructive power drags everything, even the vegetation.
Economic problems: After a tsunami the economy is deeply affected,
the governments face an almost total reconstruction of the affected
areas.
What happens when a tsunami occurs?
When a tsunami occurs, it brings primary and secondary
consequences. The primary consequences are those that are
generated directly related to the passage of the tsunami at that time,
the secondary effects occur in the minutes, hours, days and weeks
after the event.
What should you do if a tsunami occurs?
When a tsunami occurs, you should move away from the area of
possible flooding and if your home is flooded, it is recommended to
leave it and go to a safe area in an elevated place or safe building and
stay away from the affected area until instructed by the authorities.
