The function detects an open engine and/or luggage compartment hatch. If a hatch is
open a warning is created in BIC. For further information, refer to:

Hatches
Purpose
The function detects an open engine and/or luggage
compartment hatch. If a hatch is open a warning is
created in BIC.

Conditions
• Ignition on (+15)

Function
The following control units are involved:

• Body-builder module (BBM)

• Instrument control unit (BIC)

When a luggage compartment or engine hatch is opened,

a warning is created in BIC via a message on the
information link from BBM. Two hard-drawn signals are
connected to BBM via the body connector block, one for
luggage hatches and one for the engine hatch. If the
parking brake should be released when a hatch is open,
an alarm would be created in BIC. To start the engine
from the driver’s seat, the engine hatch must be closed.
The engine can be started when the engine hatch is
open but only from the engine compartment and when
the parking brake is applied.
If the vehicle is fitted with body multiplex, BBM sends a
message to AIC, which shows via a symbol that a hatch is
open.

The signal types HDI, LDI, HDO and LDO have different
logic levels and structures in the control unit. The signals
have therefore different properties; see table. Note
that the limits for the different signal characteristics are
programmable and can therefore differ slightly between
the different pins. Signal types AO, AI and PWM have
fully individual programmable properties and will therefore
not be covered in detail here.

DI H = Digital signal with high activation.

If the voltage is >7.7 V the control unit interprets the
signal as active, and if the voltage is <3.5 V the signal
is interpreted as inactive.

DI L = Digital signal with low activation.

If the voltage is <3.5 V, the control unit interprets the
signal as active, and if the voltage is >7.7 V the signal
is interpreted as inactive.
