Teenage

Teenage is the evolutionary as well as the revolutionary period of ones life. It is the time when one goes through the worst so as to reach out to the best. It is the most precious and memorable part of ones life, and also one of the most difficult. According to a recent survey at Yahoo-a social networking website- teenage years are the best years of a persons life. Esther Williams, a famous personality of his time once said, Everything about my teenage life was almost ideal. During the teenage period, one is leaving childhood and entering into adulthood. Teenage brings about dramatic changes in a persons life. This is the time when a person develops physically, cognitively and biologically. A persons stature and weight increases considerably during the developing years of teenage. Furthermore, he gains the physique of an adult. Along with teenage comes the development of a persons psyche which enables him to think on his own. The ability to understand complex problems of life also develops during teenage. It is the beginning of the stage of operational thinking that involves deductive logic. A person reaps the ability to develop abstractions and hypothesis as well as analyses and understands a problem in a systematized way. Moreover, he

understands all possibilities from a certain situation and develops conceptual thinking. Teenage also brings about substantial social development in a child. It is the time when a child leaves his nest and starts flying freely in the air. He develops vocational and management skills which make him self-sufficing and self-sustaining. He remains no more dependent on his parents instead he reaches his ultimate goal of independence. At this turning point of life, a person is on fire. He is imbued with energy and zeal to do something unusual and exceptional. Under proper guidance and sagacious advice, he can change the course of history but if led astray by depraved associates, the fires of the teen can become a disastrous and dangerous force. The teenagers of today want an outlet to show their flairs. They want to prove themselves and show that they are something rather productive and important. They want to become popular and renowned in the society. Thats why we find many teenagers performing wheelies on busy roads just to attract the attention of the public. They want to show their bravery in front of the public and require people to appreciate them. Such like bustles of teens have both pros and cons. These help develop confidence in the teenagers. On the other hand, sometimes the teenager becomes haughty and thinks that he is everything.

In history, Muhammad Bin Qasim is a role model for all the teenage community. He was at the age of 17 when he, as a military General, embarked upon the adventures of the conquest of Sindh and Punjab for the Umayyad Caliphate. He dominated in the region due to his clever tactics and proper administration. All the teenagers ought to follow his footprints to be benefitting for the society. Now I would like to discuss something about teenage egocentrism. The modern trends and researches have shown that teenagers veer towards egocentrism. It is the tendency to perceive, understand and interpret the world in terms of self. An egocentric teenager thinks that his beliefs and thoughts are correct and shared by all people. To a teenager the subject of greatest interest is himself. He cannot differentiate between his mental preoccupations and that of others; thats why he assumes that everyone is obsessed with his appearance as he is himself. Furthermore, he develops an imaginary audience. He thinks that everyone is keeping an eye on his appearance and acts. So, he becomes more self-conscious. For this reason, we find many teens standing at mirrors for hours, worried about their mien. Generally, egocentrism is found more in females than males. On the whole, egocentrism is deemed as a negative phenomenon as it precludes children work systematically and correctly due to their skewed thinking.

Recent trends and surveys have proved the fact that teenage is a blind age. Today, the evil and menacing habits like smoking and drug abuse have also been found at alarming state among teenagers. Only in the US, 2 out of 3 teens drink alcohol. Drinking alcohol and smoking have numerous long-term effects on a persons body. These cause diseases like heart enlargement, splenomegaly, cirrhosis, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and many more fatal diseases. Teenagers also suffer depression and anxiety. Every year, 4 out of 100 become seriously depressed and anguished to the extent that they are ready to commit suicide. The reasons are bad grades, relationship with family and friends and alcohol or drug abuse. The upshot of depression is always devastating. It is estimated that every 30 seconds a teenager commits a suicide. The reason is the same, depression. To put it in a nutshell, I would like to conclude that teenage is indeed a crucial part of ones life. It is the time when ones personality develops and his entire life depends on the outcomes of teenage. If properly guided, a person could develop an idyllic personality and it has happened in the history. In bad company, a person would develop an abysmal personality which would rust off all his talents. So, I urge all the parents and teachers to give full guidance to the teenagers for they are the rulers of tomorrow.
