OBJECTIVE 9
Designed, adapted and implemented teaching strategies that are
responsive to learners with disabilities, giftedness and talents

PROMPT #1
Context: (Name of student) is often inattentive and does not participate in class. He/She has troubles following
simple to complex instructions and does not finish his/her independent work when not guided.

Action/s Taken: Assessed the readiness of the child. Informed the school head. Have conference with the
parents, if possible asked them about the psychological well-being of the child. Suggest necessary remedies and
take note of any progress.

How will you modify the instructions for (Name of student) to keep him/her focus on classroom activities? Write
your reflections in this form. Mention in your reflections a specific learning disability that you are familiar with
or have researched on.

YOUR REFLECTION

Students vary in many ways. From their way of life to their way of learning things. Learners with disabilities,
giftedness and talents must be taught differently from the other learners. Teachers can construct a lesson and
organized the classroom setting that will cater them without compromising any of the.

If (Name of student) cannot focus and does not pay attention in class I will position the inattentive child's desk
away from the classroom's heavy traffic areas. Other potentially distracting displays should be placed behind the
student rather than in front of him/her.

I will watch my distance to the learners. If you want your learners to remember something, make sure you are
physically close to them while you talk. Giving them a hand on the shoulder or head is an effective way to convey
your message. Make sure that you get their attention first before you speak and always make eye contact when
talking to them.

In lesson planning I will not only focus on the majority of my learners. I will construct the lesson plan considering
the multiple intelligences of individuals and all types of learners whether they are average, gifted or not. Most if
not all learners pay attention to music and engaging activities. It is always great to start the new lesson with a
song, video, or a game. This is to make sure that learners who have problem paying attention will be given
enough opportunity. It will also ensure that learners with talents in singing or dancing are catered. And for games
like riddles and puzzle will surely accommodate the gifted.

Since there are different parts of the lesson. I will integrate guided activities for learners who cannot do the task
on their own. And for leaners with great mind or advance learners I will provide independent activities for them. It

will also be good to give simple group activities to develop their social skills but still following the health protocol
standards.

As to assessment, in formative assessment it must not be the same to all if you want to score them based on
their level of intelligence. But it is also fair to give the same assessment during the summative.

For assignments or projects, It will be good to give them the freedom to choose on how they are going to present
it, to cover all their talents. Like poster slogan for the creative, through sing and dance for the musical and
physically intelligent, or through research and experiment for the highly intelligent or gifted.

As an educator for 4 years, I have been holding classes of diverse students so I have seen the importance of
recognizing the different thinking styles. There is no need to try to force learners to think in linear terms. They just
need to be able to return to their starting location when the scenario requires it. Learners with disabilities,
giftedness and talents are all learners who needs to be considered and accommodated in a conducive classroom
with a teacher who is willing to help them to be more and become more through differentiated instruction,
approach, strategies or learning styles.
