NARRATIVE REPORT
REMEDIAL READING/ READING PROGRAM

_________ 2023-_________ 2024

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”, said Frederick
Douglass. Free in a way that once you are able to read to have the freedom to
read whatever you want, enhancing your imagination, knowledge and
comprehension.

At the beginning of school year, learners are examined on their ability to

read on how proficient they are on reading. Specifically in English and
Mathematics Subject, learners are thoughts the fundamentals of Reading
which includes the Comprehension Skills.

To master reading is one of the tools for success for children. Reading is
required for many developmental accomplishments such as attention,
memory, language, and motivation. Reading is a necessary part of social
activity ( Talley, 2017). For Davis (2014) to function in today’s society, one
must know how to read. He also stated that reading is required in our daily
lives such as understanding instructions on a medicine bottle, filling out job
applications, reading road signs, writing, and responding to emails, and even
following a map are some of the normal day-to-day activities that involve
reading.

“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you
learn, the more places you’ll go.”- Dr. Seuss. However, upon careful
examination of the PhiIRI result, a significant number of learners have
difficulty in understanding the context thus creating a reading program
remediation activity to address the needs of these competencies.

This activity aims to provide learning activities to learners for mastery of

the least competencies specifically in comprehension on the result of (title of
assessment in English and Math) for Grade ______. The teacher will provide
a printed copy of the reading materials. The following strategies were used by
the teachers, such as words of the week, oral reading of story, answering of
comprehension questions, basic sight words, videos lyrical stories and
marungko approach for struggling readers. With constant reading
remediation, assessment of learners and monitoring the program was
