Project Summary

The joint program “International Master in Technology and Management for Circular Economy” (IMATEC) is
oriented on the emerging area of circular economy and bio-economy. The two-year Master's multiple degree
program offers high-quality vocational education, combining competencies in technology, entrepreneurship,
management, planning, science and research, all focused on circular economy.
The students will be trained in advanced technologies for sustainable use of natural resources, life cycle
assessment of these technologies, as well as management and legal and administrative aspects of the circular
economy. They will also gain an overview of the latest trends in the research and development of new
technologies. The aim of IMATEC is to educate qualified workforce with advanced theoretical
knowledge and practical skills crucial for practical implementation of EU-wide sustainability strategies such as the
EU Green Deal. Three European universities, i.e. University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (Czechia),
University of Oviedo (Spain) and Abo Akademi University (Finland) joined to form the Erasmus Mundus
consortium supported by 38 associated partners representing SMEs, large companies, NGOs, and universities
that play important roles in the curriculum. Students will choose their major study track and one additional study
area among (1) Technology, (2) Policy and Management, or (3) – Science. The graduates will be qualified for
positions in technological companies (e.g. technology suppliers, consultants, or utilities), policymaking bodies
(e.g. governmental agencies or NGOs), or R&D (academia or private sector). They will also acquire presentation
and managerial skills, teamwork ability, work with information
resources, and communication with professionals and the public. The implementation of IMATEC will foster
academic cooperation and increase the international dimension of HEIs within the EHEA and beyond and so
contribute to the Bologna process.
