Exercise (1)

1.1 Show that, in a partial-fraction expansion, complex conjugate poles have

coefficients that are also complex conjugates. (The result of this relation-ship
is that whenever complex conjugate pairs of poles are present, only one of the
coefficients needs to be computed.)
1.2 Find the Laplace transform of the following time functions:
𝑎) 𝑓(𝑡) = 1 + 2𝑡 𝑑) 𝑓(𝑡) = (𝑡 + 1)2

𝑏) 𝑓(𝑡) = 3 + 7𝑡 + 𝑡 2 + 𝛿(𝑡) 𝑒) 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑢(𝑡 − 𝑡1 )

𝑐) 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑒 −𝑡 + 2𝑒 −2𝑡 + 𝑡𝑒 −3𝑡 𝑓) 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑢(𝑡 − 𝑡1 ) − 𝑢(𝑡 − 𝑡2 )

1.3 Find the Laplace transform of the following time functions:

𝑎) 𝑓(𝑡) = 3 cos 6𝑡 𝑐) 𝑓(𝑡) = 𝑡 2 + 𝑒 −2𝑡 sin 3𝑡

𝑏) 𝑓(𝑡) = sin 2𝑡 + 2 cos 2𝑡 + 𝑒 −𝑡 sin 2𝑡

1.4 For of the following Laplace transforms find:
1. the time function by using partial fraction expansions
2. the final value of F(s).
3. the final value of f(t).
4. the initial value of F(s).
5. the initial value of f(t).
