CHAPTER 4

Relationship of Access on Online Learning Materials to the Academic Performance of Junior High

School Students of Bogtong National High School

This chapter presents and discuss the results obtained from the respondents through the use of

Questionnaire. This chapter also presents the discussion of findings regarding about the relationship of access

on online learning materials to the academic performance of Junior High School Students of Bogtong National

High School.

Status of JHS students of BNHS in terms of access to online learning materials, particularly in Science

subject

A. Do you use the internet to access online learning materials in Science?

Total number of responses Percentage

Yes 152 96.20

No 6 3.80

Total 158 100

Table 1 shows the total number of responses and percentage of students that answer the question,” Do you use

the internet to access online learning materials in Science?”. Ninety six percentage (96.20) of students

responses “Yes” in the aforementioned question. This meant that most of the students uses internet to access

online learning materials in Science. They has an access to a particular learning materials for the reason that

they had a gadget used (e.g. cellular phone, laptop etc.). In contrast, three percentage (3.80%)of students

responses “No”, it implies that some students does not use internet in access online learning materials. To
conclude, students mostly use internet to access online learning materials and to support their learning

particularly in Science subject.

B. Which of the following are the reasons you access online learning materials in Science?

E. Frequency of Accessing Online Learning Materials in Science

Frequency of Access A % S % R % N %

support your learning 18 11.39 100 63.29 27 17.09 13 8.23

Table 5

Table 5 presented the “Frequency of Accessing Online Learning Materials in Science”. In question, “How

often do you access the internet?” seventy percent (70.89%) of students mostly answer “Sometimes”, twenty

two percent (22.78%) of students answer “Always” and both five percent (5%) of students answer Rarely and

Never. This shows that most of students says that they “Sometimes” access the internet. In question, “ How

often do you access online learning materials to support your learning?” sixty three percent (63.29%) of

students mostly answer “Sometimes”, seventeen percent (17.09%) of students answer “Rarely”, eleven percent

(11.39%) of students answer “Always” and eight percent (8.23%) of students answer “Never”. This is meant

that students “Sometimes” has an access in internet as well as in online learning materials to support their

learning.

F. Way to access online learning materials in Science

Ways to
have
access
online Yes % No %

1)Wi-Fi 97 61.39 61 38.61

2)Mobile
data 133 84.18 25 15.82

Table 6

Table 6 presented the students answer in “Way to access online learning materials in Science”. Sixty one

percent (61.39%) of students answer “ Yes” in Wi-Fi as their way to access online learning materials, however
thirty eight percent of students (38.61%) answers “No”. This result meant that students mostly uses Wi-Fi in

accessing online learning materials.

On the other hand, eighty four percent (84.18%) of students answer “Yes” in Mobile data as their way to

access online learning materials and fifteen percent (15.82%) of students answer “No”. This result meant that

students mostly use mobile data in accessing online learning materials.

To conclude, most of the respondents uses Wi-Fi and Mobile data in accessing online learning materials.

However, Mobile data as a way to access has a higher percentage than Wi-Fi. It meant that Mobile data is the

mostly prefer by students in accessing online learning materials in Science.

G. Gadgets Used in Accessing Online Learning Materials in Science

Gadgets Yes % No %

2)Laptop/Computer 25 15.82 133 84.18

3)Tablet 27 17.09 131 82.91

Table 7

Table 7 shown the answers in “Gadget used in accessing online learning materials in Science “. Eighty seven

percent (87.97%) of students responses “Yes” in cellular phone/mobile phone as gadget used in accessing and

twelve percent (12.03%)of students answer “No”. This meant that students mostly use cellular phone/mobile

phone in accessing online learning materials in Science. On the other hand, fifteen percent (15.82%) of students

answer “Yes” in laptop/computer and eighty four percent (84.18%) answer “No” which implied that students

used laptop/computer less in accessing online learning materials. Financial problem is one of the reason why
students can’t afford costly devices such as laptop/ computer. Therefore, few students had this devices and less

students uses this in accessing online learning materials. Seventeen percent (17.09%) of students answer “Yes”

in tablet as use in accessing and eighty two percent (82.91%) answer “No”. It meant that students uses tablet

less in accessing.

To conclude, the result shown that among three gadgets (e.g. cellular phone/mobile phone, laptop/computer,

and tablet), cellular phone is the most used gadget by students, second is tablet and lastly the laptop.
