The actual history of skydiving starts with french man

Andre-Jacques Garnerin, who made successful parachute

descents in 1797 using a canvas canopy and a small
basket tied beneath a hot air balloon. The first recorded
free fall jump is credited to Leslie Irvin in 1919 and the
earliest competitive dives date back to the 1930's.
Skydiving became much more mainstream once the
military began developing parachute technology and used
the act of skydiving as a tactical move during World War II.
After the war skydiving became much more popular as
many returning soldiers took it up and had regular
competitions, which led to it becoming a national sport in
1952.

Many people wonder: is there a weight limit for tandem

skydiving? The answer is yes.

Most skydiving centers will say their weight limit for a

tandem passenger is approximately 200-220 pounds
for women and 230-250 pounds for men. There is
typically no minimum weight, only a minimum age (18
years old in the US). But there's more to it than the
number on the scale. Your clothing for skydiving should be
comfortable and loose-fitting. Athletic wear or activewear
items like gym shorts, leggings/yoga pants, or t-shirts are
our first choices for what to wear skydiving when it is
warm. If the weather is cool, add thin insulated base
layers beneath long sleeves and long pants for the perfect
chilly skydiving attire. No matter the weather, bring or wear
tennis shoes or other sneakers.

Safety Rules and Reminders
