SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS

Instructions: This question paper has four parts namely A, B, C and D. Answer all the parts.

PART – A
Answer ALL the questions. 𝟏×𝟓=𝟓
1. Write 𝐴 = { 𝑥: 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑑𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑓 60 } in roster form.
2. Write the interval ( 6, 12 ] in set-builder form.
3. Define power set.
4. If (𝑥 + 1, 𝑦 − 2) = ( 3 , 1 ), find the values of 𝑥 and 𝑦 .

Answer any FIVE questions. 𝟐 × 𝟓 = 𝟏𝟎
6. If 𝐴 = { 1, 2, 3, 4 }, 𝐵 = { 3, 4, 5, 6 }, 𝐶 = { 5, 6, 7, 8 } , find 𝐵 ∩ 𝐶 and 𝐴 ∪ (𝐵 ∩ 𝐶 ) .
7. If 𝑋 = { 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐, 𝑑 } 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑌 = { 𝑓, 𝑏, 𝑑, 𝑔}, find 𝑋 − 𝑌 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑌 − 𝑋 .
8. If 𝑋 and 𝑌 are two sets such that 𝑋 ∪ 𝑌 has 50 elements, 𝑋 has 28 elements and 𝑌
has 32 elements, how many elements does 𝑋 ∩ 𝑌 have?
9. If 𝐺 = { 7 , 8 } 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐻 = { 5, 4, 2 }, find 𝐺 × 𝐻 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐻 × 𝐺.

10. Find the domain and range of the function 𝑓 (𝑥 ) = √9 − 𝑥 2 .


11. Let 𝑓 (𝑥 ) = 𝑥 2 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑔(𝑥 ) = 2𝑥 + 1 be two real functions. Find (𝑓 + 𝑔)(𝑥) and (𝑓𝑔)(𝑥 )
12. Find the value of cos 75° .
PART – C
Answer any FIVE questions. 𝟑 × 𝟓 = 𝟏𝟓
13. If the universal set U = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 }, A = { 2, 3 } and B = { 3, 4, 5 }, verify
(A ∪ B)′ = A′ ∩ B′.

14. In a class of 35 students, 24 like to play cricket and 16 like to play football. Also
each student likes to play at least one of the two games. How many students like to
play both cricket and football?
15. If A = { 1, 2 }, B = { 1, 2, 3, 4 } and C = { 5, 6 } , verify that A × (B ∩ C) = (A × B) ∩ (A × C).
16. Let A = { 1, 2, 3, . . . . . . . . . . . . ,14 }. Define a relation R from A to A by
𝑅 = {( 𝑥, 𝑦 ): 3𝑥 − 𝑦 = 0, 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑥, 𝑦 ∈ 𝐴}. Write down its domain, codomain and range.

17. If cos 𝑥 = − 5 , 𝑥 lies in the third quadrant then find the values of other five
trigonometric functions.
18. Prove that 𝑠𝑖𝑛 3𝑥 = 3 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑥 − 4𝑠𝑖𝑛3 𝑥.

19. Define Modulus function. Draw the graph of the modulus function. Also write its
domain and range.
20. Define Signum function. Draw the graph of the Signum function. Also write its
domain and range.
21. Prove geometrically that cos(𝑥 + 𝑦) = cos 𝑥 cos 𝑦 − sin 𝑥 sin 𝑦.
