NAIL-ED IT

A nail care guide

By: Noor Afifah Binti Nawawi

A manicure session and pretty nail designs can really make a

difference on our fingernails. However, most of us overlooked the
important task of keeping them healthy. Here are simple ways to
keep them in tip-top shape.

1. Keep them short and sweet

Trim your fingernails regularly. Based on the result of a test
made by Dr. David Katz of Yale University in the United States,
longer nails are more susceptible to bacteria growth. According
to him, the germs living under our fingernails could get under
our skin barrier and cause infection (through scratching).

2. Dry n clean only.

When washing dishes or laundry, try to use a cloth-lined rubber
gloves. This will prevent those pesky germs and bacteria from
growing under your fingernails.

3. Moisturizer is a fingernail’s best friend

Our fingernails need just as much moisture as our skin does.
Lack of moisture in fingernails causes them to break easily.
When applying hand lotion, remember to rub the product
around your nails until it is fully absorbed.
4. The A-team.
Increase your intake of vitamin A to keep your nails away from
being dry and brittle. Food items such as broccoli and almond
are rich in Vitamin A.

5. Iron it up
See those white lines on your fingernails? If you have them, it
probably means that your body lacks iron. Eat food items with
high iron content such as seafood and supplements to keep
those white lines away.
