RECOMMENDATION BY

TRAINING AND CONSULTATION DIVISION

SEAMEO SEN
SEN/01/HCM-PAPER/23(6)

2.0 BACKGROUND

During classroom instructions, students with SEN may display behavioural issues or
co-occurring behavioural disorders, including acting out, avoidance, emotional
outbursts, and other atypical behaviour. Therefore, it is important for teachers to pay
attention to and comprehend the symptoms of their students suffering with learning
and behaviour in class in order to help them gain equal access, opportunities to study,
and succeed. Each learner with SEN has a unique need for assistance with acquiring
skills and dealing with problem behaviours, and there are specific approaches to meet
this requirement.

The Training and Consultation Division (TCD) of SEAMEO SEN decides to conduct
this training in order to train and educate teachers to recognise and become familiar
with the interventions, strategies, and techniques that account for managing the
behaviour of learners with SEN - both in learning and behaviour. Additionally,
behavioral management training can also help educators understand the unique needs
and challenges faced by learners with special needs, improving to a more positive and
effective learning environment for all learners.

3.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the training sessions, participants should be able to:

1. Understand the criteria and identify the types of behavioural issues for
learners with SEN.
2. Develop plans that appropriately consider the formulation and strategies
in managing the behavioural issues.
3. Respond to behavioural issues in classrooms appropriately.
4. Communicate intervention plan and progress with other teachers and the
learners’ parents.
5. Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary practice when needed.
6. Create a platform for the sharing of ideas on related issues based on the
perspectives of ASEAN countries.
