The Yabut

Yabuts are an enigma.

Some think they are mythical, others believe they are extinct, but the
most common notion is they are just very, very good at hiding.
We’ve all heard people calling to them. In the midst of any form of
truth or explanation, here comes the exclamation!! Ya-but, Ya-but.
They’ve got to be hiding somewhere.
We can deduce what they are like by what we know about them.
They have large questioning eyes, seeming both innocent and
perplexed of and by the world around them. Their ears are
substantial, so hearing shouldn’t be a problem. However they are
very hard of listening.
They come with wings of various sizes. The ones with short wings
can glide on flights of fancy. Larger winged Yabuts can leap into
awesome flights of fantasy.
There are varying lengths of tails, depending on their habits (short
tails or tall tales).
Yabuts are a bit puzzling in general shape. What with the curiosity if a
cat, the quick twitch of a rabbit, four legged for fast get-aways, and, of
course, just a little Batty, they cut quite a figure.
As you can see, we’ve all experienced the Yabut, and now, finally,
having put all these known traits together, we can see what they look
like.
Now, when someone we are talking to interrupts us, calling Ya-but,
Ya-but, we can tell them we’ve seen it around, somewhere.

Now I wonder if Yabuts are related to the But-I?
