PHYSICAL CONFIGURATION DURING 2ND FAULT

• Load angle between Voltages of

STATION A & B End is around 5-6º
which has been neglected
• VA has been taken as reference
for phase angles
• Fault current from STATION A End
increased due to creation of two
parallel fault paths.
• Calculated fault current other than
that through CT(1.9kA) matched
to the value of the fault current
from STATION A End during first
fault
FAULT ANALYSIS
• C Phase wave trap at STATION B of the line dislocated and
created CN fault.
• The fault was successfully cleared from both end through
Z1/ZCOM distance protection.
• AR operated at STATION A end on persistent fault after 1.1s of
single pole open dead time.
• Fault was again cleared from STATION A End through Z1 distance
protection.
• STATION B end breaker was in lock out and OFF condition. But
relay recorded 1.1kA C Phase current.
• Due to high wind, dislocated wave trap coil touched CT primary
and created second fault path through CT.
• This extra current led to operation of busbar protection at STATION
B End.
