-Plastic waste and access to nutritious food top the list of humanity’s
challenges. Yet humans are nothing if not innovative, especially in the face
of adversity. We aim to convert plastic waste and inedible biomass into
edible protein — a biological sleight of hand featuring microbes with a
serious hunger.
This technology promises to transform waste streams into nutritious food
supplements, thus solving the two problems of increasing food scarcity and
plastic waste simultaneously.
HOTS
● We know that each year at least 8 million of plastic Is dumped in the oceans and the wastelands,
which is not healthy for the environment and also takes a lot of years to decompose.
● But two U.S scientists have focused on finding an efficient, economical and versatile technology that
finds a use for plastics that are at the end of their useful life and would otherwise end up in landfills
or oceans and have created a food generator that will change plastics into protein powder.
● This new innovation will be very helpful in recycling the plastic to convert it into proteins and will
help our environment to get rid of plastic.

❏ This resulting protein contains all the required nutrients, is
non-toxic, provides health benefits and additionally allows for
personalization needs.
❏ The result is the same kinds of edible protein that we are already
eating.
