Teaching and Learning Plan

Mathematics Learning Experience for Grade 1 (C4)

Teaching and Learning Plan: Identifying, Reading, and Writing Ordinal Numbers

Grade Level: 1st Grade

Competency: Identifies, Reads, and Writes Ordinal Numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, up to
10th) in a Given Point of Reference

Duration: Approximately 2 days (adjust as needed based on learners' progress and

needs)

Objective: By the end of this learning plan, learners will be able to identify, read, and
write ordinal numbers from 1st to 10th in a given point of reference through
interactive and play-based activities.

Materials Needed:

 Picture cards or objects representing different positions (1st to 10th)

 Chart paper or whiteboard

 Markers

 Index cards or small pieces of paper

 Number flashcards or printed numbers from 1 to 10

 Various props or toys for interactive activities

Introduction to Ordinal Numbers

1. Gather the learners in a circle and introduce the concept of ordinal numbers,
explaining that they represent the position or order of objects.

2. Use picture cards or objects representing different positions (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd)
to demonstrate the concept.

3. Engage learners in a discussion about ordinal numbers and their significance

in everyday life (e.g., first, second, third places in a race).

4. Play a sorting game where learners arrange picture cards or objects in the
correct order while labeling them with ordinal numbers.

Reading Ordinal Numbers

1. Review the concept of ordinal numbers from the previous day.

2. Write a few ordinal numbers (e.g., 1st, 3rd, 5th) on the chart paper or
whiteboard.

3. Read the ordinal numbers aloud, emphasizing the correct pronunciation.

4. Provide examples and non-examples of ordinal numbers, asking learnerss to

identify the correct ones.

5. Engage learners in a reading race, where they compete to read and identify
ordinal numbers correctly.

Writing Ordinal Numbers

1. Review the concept of ordinal numbers and their reading from the previous day.

2. Distribute index cards or small pieces of paper to each learner.

3. Display a number flashcard or written number (1 to 10) and ask learners to

write the corresponding ordinal number.

4. Conduct a collaborative activity where learners create a large chart of ordinal

numbers, writing them in the correct order and placing corresponding objects
or pictures next to each number.

Interactive and Play-Based Activities

1. Divide learners into pairs or small groups.

2. Provide each group with a set of props or toys.

3. Instruct the learners to create a scene or scenario where the toys or props are
arranged in a specific order.

4. Have learners present their scenes to the class, using ordinal numbers to
describe the objects' positions.

5. Encourage classmates to identify and confirm the ordinal numbers used.

Consolidation and Assessment

1. Conduct a review session, asking learners questions about ordinal numbers.

2. Give each learner a worksheet with various scenarios where they need to
identify and write the correct ordinal numbers.

3. Provide immediate feedback and support to learners during the assessment.

4. Wrap up the lesson with a class discussion, reflecting on the learners' progress
and understanding of ordinal numbers.
Note: Throughout the teaching and learning plan, adjust the activities, examples, and
level of difficulty according to the age and ability of the learners. Encourage active
participation, provide positive reinforcement, and create a supportive learning
environment to foster engagement and
