1. Purpose
American Petroleum Institute (API) standard 541, Third Edition, April 1995 is adopted as a SABIC
Engineering Standard with the following addendum.

2. General
2.1 Motors manufactured to this specification shall conform to API 541, Third Edition, except as modified
by this specification, as set forth on the SES E06-X02, project specification or by the purchase order.
2.2 Motors shall be able to operate continuously at their nameplate rating in the following environmental
conditions without damage or degradation of operating characteristics:
Indoor/Outdoor Conditions: Ambient Temperature -1 °C to 50 °C
Corrosive desert atmosphere with blowing sand and fine dust
Storage/Transport: Ambient -20 °C to 70 °C
Relative Humidity: 0 to 95 percent non-condensing
Altitude: Sea Level
Seismic Condition: UBC Zone 1

Section 2 - Basic Design
2.1 General
2.1.2 Add the following paragraph:
All motors shall be designed and provided with protection against severe duty chemical service, corrosion
and high humidity conditions.
2.1.3 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Control of sound pressure level to meet the specified requirements shall be the sole responsibility of the
vendor. Unless otherwise specified, maximum sound level shall be 85 dBA at (1) meter. See
SES S20-G01. When used for noise control, acoustical absorbent material shall be designed to resist
shredding and shall be adequately supported with corrosion resistant fasteners or wire mesh. Complete
information including material specification and installation details shall be submitted with the proposal.

2.2 Electrical Design
2.2.1 Rating and Voltage
2.2.1.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
In general, motor ratings shall be selected to operate at the following voltage levels:

All the motor power ratings shall be based on a 50 °C ambient temperature at 1.0 service factor. When the
power requirement of the driven equipment falls between two standard motor ratings, the motor having the
larger power rating shall be selected.
2.2.2 Stator Windings
2.2.2.3 Add the following new paragraph:
The motor shall be electrically and mechanically capable of withstanding the forces developed during
electrical faults without winding distortion or mechanical failure when operating at rated kilowatts, and
10 percent over voltage. The stator core and windings shall meet the following requirements.
2.2.2.3.a The stator core mounting shall be designed to absorb the vibrations caused by the rotating
magnetic field.
2.2.2.3.b The stator laminations shall be high grade silicon steel, coated so that they are unaffected by
normal temperatures encountered during operation and motor testing; segmented, rotated to reduce
tolerance build-up; rigidly mounted and tightly compressed to form a permanently clamped and rugged
structure.
2.2.2.3.c The stator coils shall be form-wound of insulated copper strands bonded to each other. Coil
ground wall insulation shall be a Mica-based system, vacuum pressure impregnated with an epoxy resin.
For motor rated above 4 kV, the coils shall be designed to suppress corona by application of coating or
tape on straight sections of coil and extending beyond the stator core.
2.2.3 Load Requirements
2.2.3.3 Add the following new paragraph:
As a minimum, all motors shall satisfy the speed torque requirements of the driven equipment over its
entire starting range at 80 percent rated voltage, unless a lower voltage is specified in SES E06-X02. Motor
applications shall be based on the driven equipment load inertia value. When the driver equipment load
inertia values are not known, the NEMA load inertia values shall be used.
2.2.5 Starting and Running Conditions
2.2.5.3 Modify the requirement as follows:
When the motor speed torque curve at the conditions specified in 2.2.5.2.a or 2.2.5.2.b is plotted over the
load speed torque curve, the motor-developed torque shall exceed the load torque by a minimum of 20
percent (motor-rated torque as base) at all locations throughout the speed range up to the motor
breakdown torque point.

2.2.5.4 Add the following new paragraph:


As minimum, the motor shall be mechanically and thermally capable of operating at a 15 percent overload
continuously without exceeding the Class F temperature rating of the insulation.
2.2.5.5 Add the following new paragraph:
The current pulsation shall not exceed 66 percent of rated RMS full load current for all specified conditions
of loading. Lower values shall apply when specified on SES E06-X02. The joint effort of the manufacturers
of the motor and of the driven equipment shall be required when necessary to meet the specified limit.
2.2.6 Starting Capabilities
2.2.6.1 Add the following sentence:
Motors shall be capable of making the following starts:
Add the following new paragraphs:
2.2.6.1.a Three (3) starts in succession, coasting to rest between starts, with the motor initially at ambient
temperature.
2.2.6.1.b Two (2) starts in succession with the motor initially at its rated temperature.
2.2.6.1.c One (1) start every hour after 2.2.6.1.a and 2.2.6.1.b but not exceeding four (4) starts per
24-hour period.
These restart requirements shall apply when the moment of inertia of the load, the load torque during
acceleration, the applied voltage, and the method of starting are those for which the motor was designed.
2.2.6.2 Delete this paragraph.
2.2.7 Performance
2.2.7.d Add the following paragraph:
The motor design shall be based to obtain premium efficiency. An efficiency evaluation based on a value
per kW to be specified by SABIC shall be used to obtain the optimum efficiency level basis.
2.2.7.e Add the following new paragraph:
The reactive power requirement of the motor shall be furnished by the power system. In the future,
capacitors may be applied to provide power factor correction. The vendor shall state the maximum number
of capacitors that can safely be added, and shall also provide a recommended control scheme to prevent
excessive transient torques due to out-of-phase reclosure.
2.3 Insulation System
2.3.1 General Requirements
2.3.1.1 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The allowable temperature rise shall be based on 50 °C (122 °F) ambient temperature.
2.4 Mechanical Design
2.4.1 Enclosures
2.4.1.2 Motor Enclosures and Corresponding NEMA Specifications
Add the following sentence:
Motor enclosures shall conform to SES E06-G01.
2.4.2 Frame and Mounting Plates
2.4.2.6 Add the following sentence:
Unless otherwise specified, requirements for motor mounting shall be specified by the vendor with unit
responsibility.
2.4.3 Frame Connections
2.4.3.10 Add the following new paragraph:
All conduits shall be rigid galvanized steel or copper free aluminum. Terminations to device terminal boxes
and devices shall be liquid-tight flexible conduits with approved fittings. All power and control wiring within

the confines of the motor shall be heat, moisture, and abrasive-resistant. The main motor leads shall be
composed of tough silicon rubber insulation. Within the confines of a baseplate and other areas subject to
vibration, stranded conductors shall be used. All wiring shall be stranded copper.
2.4.5 Rotating Element
2.4.5.1 General
2.4.5.1.1 Add the following sentence:
Plating or spraying of the shaft at the bearing areas shall be unacceptable.
2.4.5.1.5 Add the following sentences:
Unless otherwise specified, for motors rated over 3700 kW (5000 hp), the shaft shall be provided with an
integral shaft hub flange. This flange shall not interfere with the removal of the rotor or other disassembly.
2.4.5.2 Assembly
2.4.5.2.1 Add the following paragraph:
The rotor shall consist of high grade silicon steel lamination coated to minimize core loss. The coating shall
be unaffected by normal temperatures encountered during operation and motor testing. Lamination shall
be single piece, rotated to reduce tolerance build-up, punched to fine tolerances, shrink-fitted and tightly
compressed to form a permanently clamped and rugged structure.
2.4.5.2.2 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The rotor winding, including bars and end rings, shall be copper or copper alloys, or both. Cast or
fabricated aluminum cage designs shall not be acceptable.
2.4.5.2.11 Add the following new paragraph:
When nonmagnetic retainer rings are used, the ring material shall be either 18 Mn - 18 Cr or 18 Mn - 13 Cr.
Retainer rings made from 18 Mn - 5 Cr material shall not be acceptable.
2.4.6 Dynamics
2.4.6.2 Balancing
2.4.6.2.1 Add the following sentence:
All special purpose motors operating at speeds in excess of the first critical speed shall be balanced in at
least three (3) planes.
2.4.6.2.2 Add the following sentence:
Grinding shall not be permitted.
2.4.7 Bearing and Bearing Housing
2.4.7.3 Add the following sentence:
The front and rear bearings shall be interchangeable and shall be designed so that they can be removed
without disturbing the rotor.
2.4.7.8 Add the following sentence:
Each motor shall be provided with both bearings electrically insulated from the frame and bearing housing.
Insulation resistance from the frame shall not be less than one (1) megohm when tested at 500 Vdc.
Warning nameplates reading ‘Insulated Bearing’ shall be mounted on or near all motor bearings that are
electrically insulated from the motor frame. Terminal facilities shall be provided to permit direct resistance
measurements for testing of the bearing insulation.
2.4.7.12 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The bearing housing shall be equipped with constant level sight-feed oilers. Properly marked, easily
discernible indicators for proper oil level shall be provided.
2.4.7.17 Add the following sentences:
The motor shall be designed to provide access for the measurement of shaft vibration by a hand held probe
adjacent to each bearing. Non-drive end shaft access for TEAAC and TEFC motors shall not be required.

2.4.8 Lubrication
2.4.8.7 Substitute ‘API 614’ with ‘SES G03-S01’.
2.4.8.8.2 Add the following sentences:
Flow indicators and temperature gages shall be furnished in the atmospheric oil drain return line from each
bearing. Each flow indicator shall be of the bull’s-eye type and shall be installed with its bull’s-eye glass
preferably in a vertical plane to facilitate viewing the flow of oil through the particular line.
2.4.8.9 Add the following sentences:
Single feed and drain header connections for each oil circuit shall be furnished. The lube oil piping shall be
304 stainless steel conforming to ASTM 392.
2.4.9 End Play and Couplings
2.4.9.3 Add the following paragraph:
The vendor shall specify the maximum rotor end float and maximum coupling end float. The motor shaft
position, when magnetically centered, and rotor end play limits, shall be permanently scribed on the shaft.
A permanent reference point shall be indicated on the bearing housing.
2.4.10 Materials
2.4.10.6 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
Unless otherwise specified, only non-magnetic metallic fans shall be acceptable.
2.4.11 Nameplates and Rotation Arrows
2.4.11.5 Add the following new paragraph:
All equipment shall be tagged with the equipment item number as identified in the Purchase Order or
SES E06-X02. Control and accessory items, for example instruments and terminal boxes shall receive
individual tag numbers. In general, items to be tagged shall include instrumentation, preassembled
components, and components shipped separately that require a field utility connection. Items shall be
tagged with the item numbers shown on the Purchase Order, or commented upon vendor drawings. Tags
shall be corrosion resistant metal and impression stamped ‘Item No.____’. The tags shall be riveted,
screwed or attached with stainless steel wire to each component.
2.4.11.6 Add the following new paragraph:
Equipment containing insulating oils, anti-freeze solutions and any other fluids shall be tagged at openings
to indicate the nature of the contents, shipping instructions and storage precautions. Openings that require
a rust-preventive shall be tagged to indicate that it has been applied. The tag shall also show the name,
type and manufacturer of the rust preventive, and its solvent.
Section 3 - Accessories
3.1 Terminal Boxes
3.1.1 Add the following paragraph:
The terminal boxes shall be extra large and sized for the allowable bending radius and stiffness of the
motor supply cables as specified by SABIC for terminating a grounding conductor, to accommodate
preformed stress cones, surge protection and current transformers. Oversizing of boxes shall be
necessary to accommodate cable sizes larger than normal due to cable derating and voltage drop
requirements. The vendor shall be responsible for ensuring that the main motor terminal box is supported
at grade level or on the baseplate. All the internal connections shall be insulated and taped for the voltage
class. The terminal box shall be rated NEMA 4 heavy-gage, steel with a minimum thickness of 5 mm
(3/16 in).
3.1.4 Add the following paragraphs:
Terminal blocks shall be provided for all low voltage and control wiring. Terminal blocks shall be a
noncorrosive type with nickel-plated copper, current carrying components. The spare capacity shall be at
least 10 percent of the terminal blocks on any strip.

All control and low voltage wiring terminal boxes shall be located on the side of the motor enclosure and
shall be either NEMA 4X stainless steel or cast iron. The boxes shall be rotatable to allow for connection
from any one (1) of four (4) directions at 90° intervals. A motor lead seal and neoprene gasket shall be
provided between the motor frame and the terminal box.
Cast terminal boxes, when supplied, shall have threaded conduit hubs or entrances. A minimum of two (2)
conduit hubs shall be provided in all control wiring terminal boxes. Fabricated terminal boxes shall be
provided with removable plate on bottom for field drilling.
3.1.5 Add the following sentence:
A tinned-copper grounding bus bar shall be provided in the main terminal box for terminating cable shields
and any grounding conductors routed with the phase conductors.
3.1.6 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
As a minimum the main and auxiliary terminal boxes shall be supplied with items c, d and g. Main terminal
boxes for motor rated 930 kW (1250 hp) and above shall be supplied with items c, d, g, i, j, k and m.
3.1.8 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
When differential current transformers are provided, secondary leads shall be required and shall meet the
requirements of this paragraph.
3.2 Winding Temperature Detectors
3.2.1.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Motors rated 750 kW (1000 hp) and above shall have the stator windings equipped with 9, 100 ohm,
platinum RTD’s, three (3) per phase, wired to a terminal strip in a NEMA 4X stainless steel or cast iron
terminal box for continuation wiring by SABIC. The RTDs shall be 3-wire and shall be located in each
phase where the maximum temperature may be detected. Six (6) of the RTDs shall be used for stator
winding temperature indication and three (3) RTDs shall be used for protective relaying.
3.3 Bearing Temperature Detectors
3.3.1 Add the following sentences:
Unless otherwise specified in SES E06-X02, for motors rated 1500 kW (2000 hp) and above, which have
hydrodynamic bearings, the lower section of each bearing shall be provided with two (2), 100-ohm,
platinum RTDs. The RTDs shall be furnished and installed in accordance with SES G19-S01. The RTDs
shall be wired to a separate terminal box.
3.4 Space Heaters
3.4.1 Add the following sentence:
Unless otherwise specified on SES E06-X02, all motors shall have sheath type space heater sized to
prevent condensation during periods of non operation.
3.4.2 Add the following sentences:
Unless otherwise specified on the SES E06-X02, the motor space heaters shall be rated as follows:
2000 watts and less 120 volts, 1 phase
Larger than 2000 watts 480 volts, 3 phase
3.4.3 Add the following sentences:
The space heater sheath shall not exceed a maximum temperature of 180 °C or 80 percent of the ignition
temperature of specified gas/vapor in hazardous locations for any value at or below the maximum rated
ambient temperature of 50 °C and 120 percent of rated voltage. The space heater leads shall be
terminated in a separate terminal box from that containing the motor phase leads.
3.5 Screens and Filters
3.5.2 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
Air flow inlet filters shall be provided for all motor enclosure designs requiring make-up air. Filter shall meet
the provisions of 3.5.3 to 3.5.5.

3.6 Alarms and Control Devices for Motor Protection


3.6.2 Surge Protection
3.6.2.1 Add the following paragraphs:
Unless otherwise specified on SES E06-X02, the motors rated 1500 kW (2000 hp) and above shall be
provided with surge protection using metal oxide surge arrestors.
The surge capacitors shall be sealed type construction utilizing a nonflammable, non-PCB dielectric. No
additional circuit protective devices shall be provided for the capacitor protection.
3.6.3 Differential Current Transformers
3.6.3.1 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
Unless otherwise specified on SES E06-X02, motors rated 1500 kW (2000 hp) and above shall be
supplied with differential protection for protecting against phase to phase and phase to ground faults.
Provisions for differential protection current transformer (CTs) shall be specified on SES E06-X02 and as
defined below.
3.6.3.1.a Unless otherwise stated on SES E06-X02, self-balancing, window type CTs located at the motor,
shall be used to provide differential protection. The window type CTs shall be a 50:5 ratio and shall be
supplied by the vendor.
3.6.3.1.b For large motors supplied with captive transformers located in close proximity, nonself-balancing
CTs shall be supplied for a zone differential scheme as shown on referenced single line diagram and
SES E06-X02. The motor terminal box shall be sized to include the CTs supports for the CTs. The
accuracy class and ratio of the CTs shall be as specified on SES E06-X02.
3.6.3.1.c In both cases, all motor leads shall be brought out into the box and all leads shall be fully
insulated for their voltage class.
3.6.3.2 Add the following new paragraph:
When shown on referenced single line diagram or specified on SES E06-X02, additional CTs shall be
provided for motor protective relaying and local metering. The accuracy class and ratio of CTs shall be as
specified on SES E06-X02.
3.6.3.3 Add the following new paragraph:
The CTs shall be prewired and terminated using shorting type terminal blocks located in a separate
terminal box accessible from outside the high voltage terminal box.
3.7 Ground Connectors
Add the following sentence:
Where separate pedestal bearings are supplied, each unit shall be provided with a tapped hole in the
frame foot for a ground connection.
3.8 Vibration Detectors
3.8.1 Add the following sentences:
Unless otherwise specified on SES E06-X02, each bearing for horizontal motors rated in excess of
1500 kW (2000 hp) and equipped with hydrodynamic bearings shall be provided with two (2) vibration
probes and oscillator demodulators. Installation shall be in accordance with SES G19-S01.
Section 4 - Inspection, Testing and Preparation for Shipment
4.1 General
4.1.1 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
4.1.1.a When shop tests are to be observed by SABIC during the manufacturing schedule, the vendor
shall provide 10 days’ notice to SABIC. A telex or fax transmittal from the vendor confirming the readiness
to test and advising results of any standard tests which have been completed shall be received by SABIC
two (2) days prior to the scheduled test date. Readiness to test indicates that the critical parameters such
as vibration level, noise level, temperature rise and operational capability are satisfactory.

4.1.3 Substitute the paragraph as follows:


All equipment covered by this specification shall be subjected to inspection by SABIC or their designated
representative. SABIC’s inspectors shall also be granted access to any and all parts of the manufacturing
facility engaged in the manufacture or testing of the equipment. The vendor shall be required to arrange
compliance with these requirements with all material suppliers, including outside foundries and forging
shops, by noting on the face of all copies of subsequent Purchase Orders of SABIC’s intent to inspect
materials on those orders. SABIC reserves the right to inspect all equipment that forms part of the full
scope of a basic Purchase Order.
4.1.3.1 Add the following sentence:
All special purpose motors rated above 7500 kW (10000 hp) shall be witness tested.
4.1.3.2 Add the following sentences:
All special purpose motors rated 7500 kW and below shall be observed tested. When specified on
SES E06-X02, general purpose motors shall be observed tested.
4.2 Inspection
4.2.1 General
4.2.1.1 Add the following sentences:
The vendor shall submit to SABIC for review, all certifications of material such as mill test reports, purchase
specifications, bills of material and running test data to verify that the requirements of the specifications
have been met; results of all quality control tests and inspections; and final assembly maintenance and
running clearances.
4.2.1.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
No surface (or parts) of the furnished equipment shall be painted until inspection is completed. SABIC will
inspect for cleanliness all equipment and all piping and appurtenances furnished by or through the vendor,
prior to assembly.
4.2.3 Inspection
4.2.3.5 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
The vendor shall submit its Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedure for review by SABIC.
4.2.3.6 Add the following sentence:
For all special purpose motors rated larger than 3750 kW (5000 hp), a verification of residual unbalance of
the completely assembled rotor shall be provided.
4.3 Final Testing
4.3.1 General
4.3.1.3 Add the following sentence:
Certified test reports shall be provided for all tests conducted.
4.3.1.4 Add the following paragraph:
For all special purpose motors, formal test procedure shall be prepared detailing all tests to be performed
and submitted to SABIC at least three (3) months before the test date for review and approval. Unless
specifically waived by SABIC, all tests are to be witnessed or observed by SABIC or their designated
representative.
4.3.3 Vibration Tests
4.3.3.4 Add the following sentences:
During the shop test of the assembled motor operating at the no-load speed, the shaft vibration shall be
measured adjacent to and relative to each radial bearing using the job proximitor probes. The peak-to-peak
amplitude of the unfiltered vibration in any plane, including mechanical and electrical run-out, shall not
exceed the limits specified.

4.3.4 Stator Tests


4.3.4.1 Add the following sentence:
Stator core test shall be performed on all special purpose motors.
4.3.4.2 Add the following sentences:
The voltage surge withstand capability of the stator turn to turn insulation shall be within the envelope
defined in Figure 1 of IEEE 522. Two (2) additional stator coils shall be manufactured for all the special
purpose motors at the same time as the complete stator winding, and shall be tested.
4.3.4.3 Power Factor Tip-Up Test
An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The power factor tip-up test shall be performed on all completed stators and on the additional stator coils
for special purpose motors.
4.3.4.4.1 Add the following paragraph:
All motor stators shall be suitable for the immersion test. Selected general purpose motors shall be
subjected to the immersion test to verify the integrity of the manufacturers insulation system. All special
purpose motor stators shall be water immersion tested.
4.3.5 Special Tests
4.3.5.1.3 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The special purpose motor’s insulation shall be tested using dc High Potential test.
4.4 Preparation for Shipment
4.4.1 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
4.4.1.a The motor shall be protected, in a manner requiring no disassembly prior to operation, against
mechanical damage and atmospheric corrosion during shipment and outdoor storage for a period of at
least 12 months. The vendor shall be solely responsible for the integrity of the preparation for shipment
provisions employed with respect to material and application.
4.4.1.b The vendor shall specify recommended maintenance during outdoor storage, permissible periods
of outdoor storage and items for which indoor storage is recommended. If it is necessary to commission
space heaters during storage, a terminal box for the heater leads shall be provided for electrical
connection by SABIC.
4.4.1.c Bracing, supports and rigging connections shall be provided to prevent damage during transit,
lifting, loading or unloading. Storage procedures shall be submitted to SABIC for review.
4.4.2 Add the following paragraph:
Shipment preparation procedures shall be submitted to SABIC for concurrence. Such procedures shall be
mutually agreed upon prior to shipment. The number of boxes shall be minimized, but consistent with safe
shipping procedures.
4.4.3.1 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
The manufacturer’s ‘Mill & Chemical’ API paint system may be used.
4.4.3.2 Add the following sentence:
Immediately upon completion of all tests and inspection, all exposed machined surfaces shall be coated
with a rust preventative.
4.4.3.3 Add the following paragraph:
The vendor shall submit the proposed internal preservation procedure for review and approval by SABIC.
Internals of bearing housings shall be sprayed with circulating oil or coated with a preservative. All bearing
housing openings shall be plugged or covered with standard blind flanges and gaskets. A corrosive
resistant name tag shall be secured to the bearing housing and shall list requirements to be taken prior to
starting of motor.

4.4.3.4 Add the following sentences:


A rust inhibitor shall be applied to all flange faces. All vapor inhibitor phase (VIP) crystal bags shall be tied
securely to flange covers to ensure that they are removed when the cover is removed.
4.4.3.6 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
All equipment shall be packed, securely anchored, (skid-mounted when required), and weather-protected
for the specified shipment method. Bearing assemblies shall be removed or the shaft blocked to prevent
bearing damage. Separate, loose or spare parts shall be boxed and each part shall be individually
protected as required. Each container shall be marked both inside and outside with the equipment number
and service for which the parts are intended. Each container shall also include a complete Bill of Material
identifying each part. Bearing assemblies shall be fully protected from rusting and entry of moisture.
4.4.3.9 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
All the motors that are to be shipped by sea freight shall be provided with special shipping bearing, or
suitable locking means to prevent rotor movement. Method shall be submitted to SABIC for review.
4.4.10 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
One (1) complete set of installation, operation and maintenance instructions shall be packed with the
equipment.
4.4.11 Add the following new paragraph:
The final acceptance of the equipment shall be contingent upon the receipt of the test reports verifying the
equipment to be in full compliance with the specification and certified copies of as-built drawings in
accordance with the drawing requirements, plus successful operation.
Section 5 - Guarantee and Warranty
5.1 Add the following new paragraph:
The motor shall be furnished with a guarantee and verified by shop testing that it conforms to this
specification. The vendor shall not ship any motor which exceeds the noise levels specified without written
authorization from SABIC.
5.2 Add the following new paragraph:
If the certified tested motor losses are greater and the motor efficiency at full load is lower than the
guaranteed value (stated in Motor Proposal Data), the motor purchase price shall be reduced by a value
per kW to be specified by SABIC, to compensate for the excess losses.
Section 6 - Vendor Data
6.1 Proposals
6.1.20 Add the following new paragraph:
Spare parts and spare parts documentation shall be provided in accordance with the Purchase Order. As a
minimum, one set of spare parts shall be provided for every motor rating/design purchased. When multiple
motors of the same rating/design are purchased, a complete set of spare parts may be supplied for every
two (2) motors. However, a separate price shall be included in the base quote for startup and
commissioning spare parts as follows:
6.1.20.a One (1) set of front and rear bearings.
6.1.20.b One (1) set of oil rings for each bearing.
6.1.20.c One (1) set of oil labyrinth seals (internal and external).
6.1.20.d One (1) complete set of reusable air filters (If applicable).
6.1.21 Add the following new paragraph:
Vendor shall furnish detailed information required for special maintenance or repair of motors which are not
included in the standard maintenance manuals. These special details shall include clearance and gap
requirements for assembly or disassembly of, for example, motor bearings and seal clearances, and rotor
gap.

6.2 Contract Data


6.2.2 Drawings
6.2.2.3 Add the following new paragraphs:
6.2.2.3.i For motors larger than 930 kW (1250 hp), outline dimension drawing including, for example, the
total weight of equipment, weight of heaviest part to be removed for maintenance purposes, shipping units,
arrangement of components.
6.2.2.3.j Detail drawings which show base and mounting detail, method of anchoring, supports required
and weights. This information shall be certified by the vendor. Also, detail drawings which show cuts and
sections shall be furnished for major components.
6.2.2.3.k Schematic diagrams which include internal connection diagrams with control switches and
instruments switches contact development.
6.2.2.3.l Flow diagram for cooling and lube oil system shall show air flow pattern, cooling water and lube
oil requirements, the rejection in BTU’s and CFM of makeup air required.
6.2.4 Instruction Manuals
6.2.4.5 An exception to the requirement is as follows:
Photographs of assembly process shall be provided for all special purpose motors rated 3750 kW
(5000 hp) and above.
Add the following new sections:
Section 7 - Storage
The vendor shall recommend procedures for short and long term storage both for indoor and outdoor
locations. Maintenance during storage shall also be addressed.
Section 8 - Field Assistance
The vendor may be required to assist SABIC with the installation, check out testing and start up at the
jobsite. Hourly rates, costs for travel, accommodation, and per diem expenses shall be provided at
SABIC’s request.
