IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparation Review the students of the lesson about series circuit
and the rules for resistors connected in series.
B. Mind setting Show to the class a sample illustration of bulbs
connected in parallel.

Ask the students of the following questions:

*How many paths for electric current to flow from the
negative to the positive terminal of the battery?
Answer: Three
*How are the bulbs connected with respect to each
other?
Answer: Bulbs are connected parallel to each other.
*If the first bulb is removed do you think this will affect
the other bulbs?
Answer: No, because current can still flow in the second
and third bulb.
*If the bulb in the middle is remove, what happen to the
first and third bulb?
Answer: Bulbs will continue to emit light because current
flow is not cut off in the first and third bulb. Removal of
bulb will cut off the flow of current only in that portion of
the circuit.

D. Analysis Ask the following questions:
*What type of circuit is formed by the connection of the
Bulbs?
Answer: parallel circuit
*How many paths are available for current to flow?
Answer: three or more than one paths
*What is the total resistance offered by the bulbs
connected in parallel?
Answer: 2.85 ohms
*What is the voltage across the three bulbs?
Answer: 12 volts
What is the current flowing in the first bulb?
Answer: 1.2 Amperes
*What is the current flowing in the second bulb?
Answer: 2.4 Amperes
*What is the current flowing in the third bulb?
Answer: 0.6 Amperes
*What is the effect of connecting bulbs in parallel?
Answer: Bulbs emit bright light because the resistance it
offers is very small.
E. Abstraction Explain to class the following concepts about parallel
circuit;
Parallel circuit has more than one path for electric current
flow.
Removal of any of the bulbs will not affect the rest from
emitting light.
Total resistance in the circuit is obtained adding the sum
of the reciprocals of the separate bulbs.
The total current flowing in the circuit is equal to the sum
of the current flowing in every bulb.
The bulbs connected in parallel emit bright light because
the resistance in the circuit is very small.
F. Application Ask this question:
6 bulbs have red and black wires, how will you connect it
to create a parallel circuit that will be attached to a 24
volts lead storage battery.
Answer: connect all red wires to the positive terminal of
the battery and connect all black wires to the negative
terminal.
G. Practical Applications of Why appliances should be connected parallel to other
Concepts and Skills in appliances at home?
Daily Living Answer: Appliances should be connected in parallel to
Increase the current flow and reduced damage of the
appliances due to low voltage supply.
H. Generalization Let the students recite the definition of parallel circuit and
the rules for resistances in parallel connection.

2. Since the bulbs are connected in parallel, the voltage drop in each resistance is the same. The
voltage across the circuit is 12 volts. What is the voltage drop in bulb 1, bulb 2 and bulb 3?
Answer: ________ volts

3. What is current (I) flowing in bulb 1?
