What is success?

The Uqbah bin 'Amir ‫رﺿﻲ ﷲ ﻋﻨﮫ‬

Messenger of Allah ‫ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﯿﮫ و‬ narrated:
‫ ﺳﻠﻢ‬explained salvation and I met the Messenger of
destruction, in dunya and Allah ‫ ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﯿﮫ و ﺳﻠﻢ‬one
akhirah. day, and asked :
‫َﻣﺎ اﻟﻨﱠ َﺠﺎةُ ؟‬
َ َ َ َ ْ َ
‫أ ْﻣ ِﺴﻚ َﻋﻠ ْﻴﻚ ِﻟ َﺴﺎﻧﻚ‬ What is the means to
salvation?
Control your tongue
He said:
‫ﯾﺎ ﻋﻘﺒﺔ‬
Dominate your tongue, don’t let it control you. The believer is
cautious of what he says, because he knows he will be held Oh Uqbah
accountable for every word he utters. ‫ﺴﺎﻧَ َﻚ‬ َ ِ‫ﺴﻚْ َﻋﻠَ ْﯿ َﻚ ﻟ‬ ِ ‫أَ ْﻣ‬
Every word you say recorded by an angel, so there is no way out. َ َ‫َو ْﻟﯿ‬
‫ﺴ ْﻌ َﻚ ﺑَ ْﯿﺘُ َﻚ‬
‫َوا ْﺑ ِﻚ َﻋﻠَﻰ َﺧ ِﻄﯿﺌَﺘِ َﻚ‬
One of the causes of entering the hell re is words which come out of control your tongue
the mouth uncontrollably. Today they call it freedom of expression. suf ce yourself your house
and cry over your sins.
The matter of the tongue is very serious. It can make or break you.
You might lose all your righteous deeds, and take on the sins of ‫ اﻟﺒﻐﻮي‬: ‫ ﻋﻘﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺎﻣﺮ | اﻟﻤﺤﺪث‬: ‫اﻟﺮاوي‬
others, because of your tongue. ‫ ﺷﺮح اﻟﺴﻨﺔ‬: ‫| اﻟﻤﺼﺪر‬
‫ | ﺧﻼﺻﺔ ﺣﻜﻢ‬7/339 : ‫اﻟﺼﻔﺤﺔ أو اﻟﺮﻗﻢ‬
You won’t taste the sweetness of iman, nor attain success, until you ‫ ﺣﺴﻦ‬: ‫اﻟﻤﺤﺪث‬
control your tongue.

‫َوﻟ َﻴ َﺴ ْﻌﻚ َﺑ ْﻴﺘﻚ‬
Take care of your home
Islam gives great importance to the home. A society or community is successful because it’s
households are good and stable. Houses together make a neighbourhood, and a neighbourhood
makes a community. So it starts with one house. In order for a community to flourish, it begins
from the foundation, and the rst brick is a single household.

The home is better than the outside world. It is noble and righteous for you to stay in, while the
tnah hits the surroundings, and everyone is committing atrocities. A good household produces
preachers and role models, righteous leaders, students who are dedicated, ghters for the sake of
Allah, a youth who is passionate and diligent in deen, a chaste and pure woman, a sincere wife, a
mother who nurtures.

How can we make our households such that they produce all this?

➽ Choose your spouse wisely. Look at the person you are thinking of marrying as the parent of
your children; do they t that role? Your rst priority should be the deen of the person you are
considering, and manners; beauty fades, wealth can go, leaders can be toppled, positions go up
and down.

➽ Nurture your children physically, mentally and spiritually. Make your home a place of worship,
where Allah is remembered.

‫َو ْاﺑ ِﻚ َﻋﻠﻰ ﺧ ِﻄﻴﺌ ِﺘﻚ‬
Cry over your shortcoming
One of the qualities that a muslim has is to account himself. He scolds himself if he falls short in
obeying the commands, or when he exceeds his limits, by crying to Allah. When the heart is lled
with remorse and regret, the pain shows in the eyes. When you repent to Allah, He will bestow His
never-ending mercy upon you. When you cry to Allah, you show that you are afraid of His wrath,
it is a sign that you know Allah. It shows humility, and a sound iman.
