 Linguistic definition:
To turn or change something away from its face.

 Applied definition:
It is changing Noon sakinah or Tanween into a hidden
MEEM ‫م‬when followed by letter Ba ‫ ب‬with the
observance of the ghunnah .
CONT.Iqlaab
In other word ,if the letter baa ‫ ب‬occurs
immediately after a noon sakinah or tanween
either in the same word or between two words ,
the reciter should convert the noon sakinah or
tanween into the hidden meem ‫ م‬with ghunnah
two counts.
• Iqlap has one letter: ‫ب‬
Iqlap sign in the Quraan
• Noon sakinah appears with a small meem ‫م‬
on top like this.
• Tanween has double Harakahs ,the first one
for the letter and the second one indicates the
presence of tanween.
• In iqlap we replace the second Harakah with
meem ‫ م‬like this.
Conditions of iqlaap

EXAMPLES
Why Iqlab is necessary in recitation?
• Iqlab is applied because if you pronounce Noon then
pronounce Baa after it, there would be a little
difficulty in pronunciation thas is why we apply
iqlaab. Also because of the distance of noon and baa
exits in the mouth.
• so Noon sakinah is pronounced as Meem, why?
1) Because meem sound and Noon sound share the
Ghunnah.
2) Besides meem and Baa share the same exit.
There are three Steps of iqlaab to be correct

1) Changing the sakin noon or the tanween into mem sakinah ‫م‬ so that nothing of
noon sakinah or noon of tanween is left .

2) Hiding meem by touching your lips nicely (don’t close the lips completely )on
meem , then separating with baa ‫ ب‬.

3) Observing while hiding the meem ,you should prounounce the ghunnah which is
characteristic of the hidden meem.
ocomplete ghunnah

• NOTE The ghunnah belongs to the letter meem
