1 PURPOSE OF TESTS
The purpose of the tests is to check the correct transmission signal information send and receive by the
Relays from optic fibers teleprotection and PLC.
All intertrip logic should be tested.
These tests are performed without load on the line. Tests with line charged are covered by energisation
procedure.

4. PRE - REQUISITES
PRE-REQUISITES REMARKS
All Safety Condition Are Ok
All Competent Personnel Available For The Test
Ac & Dc Supply Availability And Security
PPE Safety Available.
All Other Relevant Safety Instructions Been Followed
Coordination With Other Parties ( GIS, Transformer, Etc..)

5. TEST PROCEDURES
The following procedures are written for demonstrating the main End to end test to be done for the
Differential Protection and Distance protection for OHL.
All Trip Relays should be reset before the tests.
To perform this test the Differential relay should be set on Test loop back mode – Disabled in
Commission Tests Setting. In order to test the actual communication channels.
These tests can be performed without CB breaker operation, by disconnecting the trip orders at Master
trip side.

5.1 Differential Function (section 6.1)

5.1.1 Communication check

After Normalize of the communication channel between the two ends:
1-Remove one side of the channel 1 (TX) and check the channel 1 communication fail alarm after
setting time.
2- Check the remote end has also communication fail alarm.
3-Remove one side of the channel 2 (TX) and check the channel 2 communication fail alarm after
setting time.
4- Check the remote end has also communication fail alarm.
5-Remove one side of the channel 1 & Channel 2 (TX) and check the communication fail alarm after
setting time.
6- Check the remote end has also communication fail alarm.
7- note for information the propagation delay (few ms), for each channel. Both values should be
similar.

5.1.2 Measurement check

1-Inject Current from local side and check the current measurement at both ends of the line.
2- Inject Current from Remote side and check the current measurement at both ends of the line.

5.1.3 Pick up test of differential protection

1-Inject Current from local side until the relay operates, record operation current measured by the
relay at both ends.
2-Inject Current from Remote side until the relay operates, record operation current measured by the
relay at both ends.

5.1.4Communication Fail Blocking test

1-Inject Current from local side with CH1 & CH2 in service: Injected current in R phase 0,5A, check
the relay operates at both ends.
2-Inject Current from local side with CH1 in service & CH2 out of service: Injected current in R
phase 0,5A, check the relay operates at both ends.
3-Inject Current from local side CH1 out of service & CH2 in service : Injected current in R phase
0,5A, check the relay operates at both ends.
4-Inject Current from local side with Both CH1 & CH2 out of service: Injected current in R phase
0,5A, check the Diff function in the relay NOT operates at both ends. and the relay will trip by 21 ,
only for faults in Zone 1. No need to check operation of Zone 1 , This is covered in function Check.

5-Repeat the same test but the injection from remote end.

5.1.5 Checking of Inter Trip Function

1-Increase the setting at local side to 0.5 A and keep remote end at 0.35 A setting , then Inject in
Local end 0.45 A ( greater than remote end setting and lower than local end setting) , relay should
operate and Diff intertrip both sides.
2- Repeat the same test while remote end setting is increased and local end back to normal setting.
3- Return the both sides to the normal setting, and check that both relays operate while injecting
current more than setting.

5.2 Distance Protection (section 6.2)

Aided Zone 2 scheme Test:
1- Inject fault values of Z2 and Check that signal send from relay to remote end. And check that the
signal is received in remote end.
2- Inject fault values of Z2 and Check the operation time with signal received from remote end.
3- Inject fault values of Z2 and Check the operation time without signal received from remote end.

Aided DEF scheme Test:

1- Inject fault values of DEF-Forward and Check that signal send from relay to remote end. And
check that the signal is received in remote end.
2- Inject fault values of DEF-Forward and Check the operation time with signal received from
remote end.
3- Inject fault values of DEF-Forward and Check the operation time without signal received from
remote end.

5.3 Direct Intertrip (section 6.3)

1- Operate (DTT A SEND) by activating (TEE, 27/59X, 50/62) respectively and Check that DTT
signal send from relay to remote end. Also check that the signal is received in the remote end.
2- Check the operation of Trip relay when signal received from remote end.
